You've really transformed the look of that bike... At first I didn't like the chunky rear tire or that you kept the leading axle forks, but the end result works! I salute you!
Thanks guys! I'm seriously loving seeing this bike take shape.
Tonight I changed the oil, and my fork oil, and started getting the harness back in place. Man do I hate wiring! Even when the original stuff is in great shape, it's a PITA! I picked up a little tiny lead acid sealed alarm battery to use on this. I'm going to mount it, along with the CDI and rectifier straight to the underside of the seat pan with some threadserts. Gotta get that done tomorrow, then put in some fresh gas and see if we can get this baby back to life.
Today was a very good day.....she lives!

After I took that video I got the electronics mounted under the seat, harness ran, and taillight hooked up. Looks like the headlight is dead, and I need 6v bulbs for my blinkers, and obviously I need to do some tuning...but Im going to put the chain on tomorrow and take her around the block.
Hit a small roadblock when I started to try and tune her...air screw head was stripped bad and wouldn't come out so I had to drill it. Not sure if the threads in the carb are still good, so I have a new screw as well as a used carb on their way. Also have a few jets and a new headlight on their way. In the meantime my little speedo showed up. Cable is now a bit long so I have it snaked around the fork leg a bit...I'll probably source a shorter one later on.
Finally got my braided brake hose. With the rebuilt caliper it bled perfectly and works great! Also took a shot of how I mounted my electronics under the seat. You can just see the tiny 1.2ah 6v battery towards the back. Still need some correct length bolts for the rectifier....currently just held with heavy duty velcro. Still need to hook up the rear signal wires, which is what you see hanging.
Your bike is awesome man. I just picked one of these up from work for $350 and I'm going for that Holiday Customs look as well...Where did you get your tach plug?
What rear loop did you end up using? Which front brake master cylinder is that, mine isnt square like that, it's round? And do you have any clue which spoke wheels fit the GN? Mine came with gold mags! :'(
Also, what size is the fuse that is in line with the + battery wire? Mine is removed and has no battery, trying to put it back...
Sorry for all the questions. Your build is great, inspiration!
Thanks man. The rear hoop is the DCC one. I bought the upswept but ended up just cutting it off before the flat section and welding it to the GN rails where they curve up.
The tach plug I ordered was of I think a GS1100. They used the same one on a bunch of bikes, just like this:

Master cylinder is stock. From my research I believe they put the round MC on the 82's?
Not sure on the fuse size...probably a 10a though.
As for wheels, I'm not sure, but this is a fantastic site to look up the various models and part numbers.

Hope that helps!
It's just bare. I don't mind giving it a quick rubdown with a scotchbrite to keep what little patina might pop up under control. Eventually I may do it though...I just want to get this thing on the road.
Well, strike one on registering this sucker..AAA was no help. Gotta go to the DMV on thursday and start the process there. PITA, but I've done it before and its not that bad.
But you know what....I'm an outlaw biker now so I said fuck that police and went for a ride anyways. :laugh1: I now have 12 miles on her and its running great. Took a couple pics and a video too.
Only thing I need to do is repaint the lower engine case. I used the bedliner thinking that it would stay fairly cool down there, but it's getting hot enough to make that stuff sticky. That'll be another pain, but oh well, I have time to kill until it's road legal.
The tank is just raw steel that I brushed slightly. The battery I'm using is a tiny sealed lead acid that I got from my local Frys.
