the rear....I cant get the sprocket out of the cush drive..

20.jpg

a little bit rusty inside, and few of the spoke nipples are rusted on, but it will clean up

21.jpg

the right tool for the job?

22.jpg

I did few this way...but man, it was tough

23.jpg

so I got out the VERY RIGHT tool for the job lol

24.jpg

Rear done, took about 2 minutes

25.jpg

the rear really cleaned up

26.jpg

the front also really did too!

27.jpg

maybe this is why the starter button wont work>?

there's the rest of it!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

I got the dyna coils mounted, cut up the cables, wired em up, and VOILA, fire!

it wont idle, so I pulled the carbs, gonna clean em up, they are pretty nice inside, surprisingly, but found some grit in there.

now that I know it will run I can tear it down, clean it up, and start on the project!

got some podwer coating done....it was my first part, gonna blast it and redo, powder coating is definitely an art.

I can paint, so I know I can PC

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

Now that it runs so well, I figured i better work on it a little.

29.jpg

I pulled off a few parts....
30.jpg

that rusty chain, and stripped out sprocket cover screws brought out the old spoke wrench!
31.jpg

32.jpg

AND THEN......siince it ran so well, I kinda took the engine out!!

By AA you mean... Ann Arbor? Would be nice to have another DTTer in the neighborhood.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

I am down in monroe.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

Awesome! I've got plans with the trophy wife tomorrow so I'll have to miss the lunch. Have fun!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

Very, verrrrrrrrrrrry cool project; I'm enjoying following your build. Please keep it coming! What happened to the cleaned up wheels, and what are the plans?

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

the original plan was a black and red bike, BUT i decided that was too common.

so I was going to do red rims,

I will still do red accents, white stripes on tank, I think.

I have the rims hanging on the wall in the "workshop" the other name for my shed...lol

they will either go matte black, or get powder coated with the black mirror powder.

I will have to send them out for that, since I do not have an oven big enough for them here.

just picked up a fiberglass seat, and I have some awesome ideas for a tail light, hoping to find a curved LED light that will fit the profile, then french it in.

I need to find some rearsets, probably R6

I also have a ninja swingarm sitting here, havent tried out the fit on that yet

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

oh yeah, and I am really looking for a GAS TANK TO USE.
not sure what I want yet, but I need something with knee dents i think

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

I got my seat pan today!!!

still trying to find a tank, almost bought a triumph tank, but passed on it.

swap meet next month about 2 miles away....I'll probably wait to see what I can find

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

Thanks, I like it too, but I think I really want knee dents, but dont want to mess with that very nice stock tank

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

AAARGH!!!!!
My tank is no longer nice :(

I was toying around with the bike today trying teh swingarm, damn thing fell over and dented the tank :(

it's only 1 dent, hope I can pop it back out.

tankdent.jpg

BUT I got the Ninja swingarm mounted, have to figure out bushings for the pivot, spacers for the wheel, and machine the end for the honda axle.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

What year ninja swingarm is that and what did you do to bolt it in. From your pictures it damned near looks like a direct swap!

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

it's an 86 600 swingarm, pivot bolt is the same size,
axle bolt is a bit longer, and smaller, the nut will be able to go all the way on the honda axle, but the axle is really a tad to big, and too short.

I will need approx 5 mm on each side of the swingarm to center it in the frame.

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...

ahhh, dilemmas!

I really really want a white stripe on the tank, but I also want to use red on the bike, like so:

bluewings.jpg

I guess I could use white, but I want to use red as an accent color.
hmmmm

Re: 1975 CB550 F cafe...
