So a friend of mine who is not currently on the board recently picked up a KZ400 and it ready for the tracker treatment. I wasn't very familiar with the Kawi 400 motor, but it's a nice 2 with Trump-like lines. After cleaning it up and removing the carbs, the appear to have been salvaged from salt water (battery acid in the float bowls? Who knows?). So he's going to need a newer set of carbs, cables, battery, plugs, tires, and we'll see what else once we get it to fire.
The coolest occurence of kismet happened this weekend. The Harvest Classic was taking place in Luckenbach and I couldn't make it due to scheduling conflicts. I'm walking down 6th Street to get a pint when I see a BEAUTIFUL Yammy tracker in light blue. Struck up a convo with the rider and it turns out that he and his buddy run this site: http://www.vft.org/. I invited them over to the board to drop some knowledge at some point. They also turned me on to a track out in Waco where they run, so my friend and I will be loading up a trailer soon to do some real-time testing.
The next day, I'm sitting in Casino eating one of their famous burgers, when the same friend calls up and tells me he just scored a FREE '70 XS650. This one is in better shape than the KZ400-needs a battery, new ignition/key (screwdriver for now),tires, and alot of crap stripped off it, but it'll be sweet. He needs papers on both, so that's the next obstacle after getting them running/inspectable.
Pics coming soon.
