74 cb750, First build.

Re: 74 cb750, First build.

I'm currently stuck on part of the build. For those of you who didn't see my other post I took my wheels to a Honda shop to have the bearing retainer rings taken out of the hubs. But they just ended up completely stripping the threads in the hub and now I need to either find a machine shop that can possibly re thread the hub or fight with the shop to get a replacement hub. Really hope that this can be fixed seeing as how I didn't check the part when I got out back and went ahead and got it powder coated.

Looks like you spent a bunch of time on it so far, shame about the hub.
Correct repair would be to build up with weld, machine back to size then cut correct metric thread for bearing retainer (it would probably be cheaper to buy a complete parts bike ;) )

Yeah from everything you and all the other amazing people on here are telling me it seems that's the way ours going to go. But I'm stopping by a very local machine shop tomorrow to check for sure before I make the drive up to the shop that botched the part. I'll let you know how it goes!

I think I have a hub.

Remember when that bike was on the market.
Cool guy sold it.

Thanks surffly, I get the hub back from the machine shop on Tuesday hopefully it'll be good to go. If not well be in touch! And you know the guy I bought it from?

Finally bit the bullet and laced my first wheel, actually went much easier than I thought once I found the pattern.

Re: 74 cb750, First build.

I'm also looking for a stator cover. I find a crack in mine last night.

Re: 74 cb750, First build.

Haven't been able to get that much done since I'm still waiting for majority of my parts to get back from paint. I'm having a bunch of parts that couldn't be powder coated painted (tank, seat, oil tank, triple tree's, headlight bucket, side cover) to save some money I gave the parts to a friend of a friend who works its an auto body shop, this was back in early March. Finally after some ball busting things are starting to come along. Everything is primed and hopefully this weekend will be able to pick them up and continue this build!!

Re: 74 cb750, First build.

So it's been about four months now since I've been able to move on with the project!!! I gave a friend of a friend my gas tank, seat, and a few other pieces that couldn't be powder coated to have him paint. It's been almost six months now that he has had these few parts and they still aren't done!!! He works in a pretty well known body and paint shop in upstate New York, the work he does is really good. Problem he's having is he has no heat in his personal garage. I'm at a lost as to what to do, he has done all the body work that needs to be done, so if I go up there to get the parts back as is I still have to pay for the work he did so far then have to go and pay someone else to finish painting it!

In the meantime for anyone interested, I've been working on getting my private helicopter license. Its been a dream of mine and at the moment between work, and getting my parts back it's stopping me from losing my mind.

So after a year I finally have the motor back in my possession and can continue this build! Motor had a complete top end rebuild, bored out for the TRW 811 pistons, New valves, rockers, guides, and can re-grind. Also had the pinch welds on the oil tank removed and will be sending it out to be nickel plated!

If you (or anyone else?) still need a front hub it turns out I have 2 x 19 inch x 40 hole fronts that came with CB350f. (which is same as CB350 twin and CB360 wheel, 18"x 36 hole?)
I can properly remove bearings and retainer ring if anyone is interested?
