Been Around the Block
Hey all,
Just a note to keep a check on your spokes!
I am constantly checking mine after my front wheel buckled,
today I found a broken spoke on my rear wheel,
now have multiple spokess loose !
I'm hoping these are readily available from Ikonic?
cheers ACEitup
ps 6700kms and going strong!

Hi Ace it up, I would just echo your sentiments as I had 2 spokes fracture on my back wheel. Fortunately managed to spot this before it had a chance to buckle the wheel but it has made me very wary now, and always check the tension before / after a long run. Unfortunately crappy spoke quality, pot-holed UK roads & 100 kg rider is not the best combination!

Although I have now got a stock of spare standard rear spokes, I would be interested in sourcing better quality items if anybody has any ideas?

From my research concerning spoke wheels.

on the cheap side of things for wheel...

http://stores.ebay.com.au/piricambi07/CERCHI-E-GOMME-/_i.html?_fsub=1219450016&_sid=89987096&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322

front rim is 1.4 x 18 36 spokes
rear rim is 1.6 x 18 36 spokes

Gives you a chance on increasing the size of the wheel and tyres as well by being able to change the rim in either steel or alloy. You just re-use the hubs.

Locally, Mostyn (known to someone here) sell a 1.85/2.15 alloy wheel set for around $200. Unconfirmed on the spoke number though. This should let you run 90/90 front 100/90 rear

Spokes are easy to find and even custom made.

About this issue, do you guys know what are the spoke sizes to order for the ace? my crude measuring tells me they are about 3.25/3.5 mm diameter and 175/180 cm long? can anyone confirm this?

Thanks!

Just found a broken spoke on rear wheel outer spoke.

The replacement part being shipped from the Australian distributor (Ikonic) is thicker than the original and has a coarser thread.

This means that replacement requires tyre removal to replace the nipple rather than just deflating to allow nipple to retract into rim allowing you to position spoke into nipple.

I have ordered the Honda replacement part in the hope that it will as per the old Skyteam OEM part. The old OEM was 3.5mm, the new being 4mm. Sorry I don't know the thread sizing but suggest it may have gone from 0.45 to 0.50. Don't quote me.

Also note that Honda provide both inner and outer spokes. Outer being 95 degrees.

Spoke details are updated in the spreadsheet.
