Warning Not a Cafe-Brat-tracker- Resto Mod of 98 Magna

So I totally fucked the first paint job. Just a disaster. I get it all fixed and hit the side cover with filler primer, wet sand. Aost perfect and I leave it in the garage by the heater to cure.....to fucking close to the heater and melt the fucking thing. Holy shit I can't do anything right. Then I realize. I have not had 1 beer yet. So I am having a couple beers and I have body fill I the melted spot and after some more beer and sanding I hope to report it ready for paint test #2. I hope the duplicolor chrome yellow is good cause it is easy to lay and only 6 bucks a can. Mind you I have ruined half the can so far. At least this time I have the parts stuck to the mount with tape so it can't fall off.

Why waste money and time on changing perfectly good wheel bearings i wonder?
Can't powder wheels with them in. Ruins both the bearings and powder job.

Got all the repair done to the side cover. Cant tell I screwed the whole thing up. One last coat of filler primer and should be ready for paint again. But it is Superbowl Sunday so bike has to wait cause I need to eat way to much snack food and watch the Pats win.

Ha no worries. With the day I had just trying to paint a side cover I am not anyone to criticize anybody.

Painting can be a bitch.. i know i had my share of gray hairs just trying to get some plain black on my thruxton last winter..

Yep the real crappy part is right after the pic of the white base I had laid 2 real good even coats of yellow and the damn thing fell off just as I stepped back to look at it. Then it was just one f-up after another trying to fix it.

So here is the side cover that once had a nice clean coat of yellow paint only to fall on the plastic, the get melted the have 2-3 hours of repair I never should have had to do.

A few bits back from powder, 4 day turn around and 260 taxes in I think it was worth it.

Powder looks good Maritime! Shame about the sidecover, I ruined my seat the first time I painted it by dropping it too.

Ha thanks. I went to get valve stems and the only auto store open has morons who can't look for tr 412 stems so I had to wait till a real store opens tomorrow
. at least got the new bearings in and I think the black springs was the right choice

Tires mounted. Scratched the powder just a bit on the back on one side in two places but other than that was a breeze. Even with rim protectors the force it took to get the tire over crushed the powder and it came away. Not sure what else I could have done but I put sharpie on it for now and had to point it out to the FIL to see it so after filling it wit epoxy black it should be fine.

Rear wheel reinstalled. Shocks reassembled. Didn't have a spring compressor so I put them in place compressed the swing arm, zip tied the springs. Pulled the shocks put the retainer in place and cut the zip ties. Worked great
