This diode trick didn't work. In fact, it made the Dyna seem as though it wasn't there at all. A little research may reveal why, but it runs like a champ now with a new Dyna and new Dyna coils, so I hardly give a fuck anymore.

I noticed a random spark when turning the kill off and realized i had wired it from the key and direct to battery somehow causing a misfire when switched ?? after tracing it and removing the from battery connection it would not duplicate

They're gate diodes, and I thought the stripe should be on the coil side. I may have wired them backwards, which doesn't make lot of sense to me, but whatever. I like a bike that runs well, and it's definitely way better than when I first got it going.

Putting it through the paces and tweaking it here and there. I wasn't happy with any of the off-the-shelf hardware, so I machined up a couple of bushes to hold the seat...

Did you ever get it to charging better?
I did. Apparently a bunch of reg/recs out of China were wired for the DOHC 750s. So, a little rewiring and it's been golden since.

Huh! Wonder if I was having a similar issue with the 550. What did you have to change?

I went with this reg/rec: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331288984721?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Notice no white wire on the reg/rec. White from the stator goes straight to the power buss. Yellows from the stator go to yellows on the reg/rec. Red to hot side of the battery and the kill switch. Green to ground.

What is a "power buss"?

Basically a bit of metal with studs that acts as a single power (or ground) source.
