1977 CB750 Deviant Hell Ride

I spent most of the day putting the front end back on my Roadrunner. I have to say, straightening the front end of that behemoth has been hard work. Makes the motorcycles seem so minute. Graduation was on Saturday, so now I only have 3 in-service days this week and it's on to summer vacation. The 7fitty and the Roadrunner get all of the attention. Barring any financial hurdles, I want the 7fitty on the road by the Fourth of July. That is my goal.

One strange thing that happened though, if you look at the valve cover in the pic, you'll notice two tappet covers missing. Somehow, those two tappet cover threads seized and broke off. They stayed fused inside the threads of the valve cover, almost at though they were epoxied or welded in, rendering this cover useless. Fortunately, Mr E has a spare. I have no idea why this would happen. It wasn't cross threaded. Not sure if it's a warpage/heat/expansion deal or what. Since it's a bike received in pieces, I'm blind to much of its history.

Nice! Makes me itchy to get started on my Mustang (again)

Bad! about the head cover.

Good! About E having one for ya.

They came off nice and easy! But that's been a couple years ago too. Who knows... That's why god created spare parts piles

I think it was grit. I should've wire brushed the hole threads first. I'm pretty confident in that.

Got the rear brake lash up sorted....

The stock actuator lined up too far inward for a disc brake actuator...

So, I bent it...

I fabbed up some mounting plates for the Kawi actuator and a GSXR reservoir...

i have a cbx pedal/lever which is ultra cool forged aluminum mite go good there
7fitty spline is 17mm. Exposed shaft length is 32mm. Length of the lever from the center of the spline to the end of the pedal is 25cm.

Been a few weeks- summer vacation began and I tend to rake in all the other streams of revenue during this time. Working in Columbia, SC about an hour and a half away has kept me from the ride. Not to mention the Square Body Freakalene.

Anyhoo, I needed some progress so the motor got dropped in. I'm ready to get this thing running...

Thanks, man. It's definitely 17mm. Not sure if there were multiple spindle options. I think the Hondamatics had a more curved arm.

As far as tail light, I haven't figured that out yet. I thought about a 70's era Corvette light, but not so sure any more.

The motor is officially bolted in.

Something I like to use for bumps for the seat is well nuts.

Weld some bolts to the frame and thread them on...

Also, I hinged the tail...
(Still need to sort out the mount for the back of the tank)

Front caliper situation isn't working out as easily as I'd hoped.. I suspect KZ750s must've run a closer to 12" disc or something. I've tried two different brackets and front and back and two different discs.

Finally, I said screw it and ordered a double piston caliper from a '09 GS500 on eBay.

Fabbed a bracket to mount the GS500 caliper...
