I've seen one or two Honda rebel projects on this site and thought I might add my own as well. I am starting this after pretty much completing everything I wanted to do on it so there isn't going to be much progress from this point on. Still wanted to share.
I bought a 96 rebel that had been sitting for over a year in this real nice lady's driveway, and though she had intentions to ride it again, she no didn't want to go through what it would take to get it running clean again.
Long story short- a new battery, carburetor clean, and flushing out old gas and oil for new was literally all it took and ran super.
Also there was like a billion ants and larvae had made a fucking huge nest in the frame so I had a nice time tearing it all down and blasting those guys out.
So I had a pretty ok running/ looking rebel at that point. But the paint was chipping, the pipes were rusting, the seats were torn, the tires shot to hell, some bits needed replacing, and the whole thing needed to be disassembled and cleaned then put back together. So I took the opportunity to make it more my own.
Never liked how fat the rebels looked, and I've seen some guys in Japan and Thailand with narrower bikes, so I went that route too.
Cleaned up nicely, and sprayed black where I couldn't get.
This tank was the best craigslist find I've had to date. Brand new just rattle canned gray for some guys mock up.
Tank and rear fender painted by a real nice local guy, got new shoes on and taller bars. I wanted to match the higher bars with a higher sissy bar.
Got one made for a bicycle I think, drilled some new holes in the old backrest and was done.
Got the same lady that did a seat for my CJ360 to help me reshape and recover the stock seats for a narrower/taller looking seat inspired by the king and queen seats of the 70s.
I swapped out the old speedo unit, put on shorter tailpipes and a few other odds and ends and now this is just about how she sits except for a new brake light since I took these photos.
Thanks for looking.
