La Pastinaca
« on: Apr 22, 2012, 20:31:49 »
I have finally found the time to start posting my build of La Pastinaca, a 1972 Honda CB450.
A good reference point for this build is then engine build that Joey of DWMS was so kind to take on for me.
Here is that link.  http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=27633.0

Now, I did not document the tear down, so I will start with the "naked" frame.
Stay tuned.

Thank you Joe! I appreciate your support.
Here we go.

This is how her frame looks at this point. She is naked, "mature", with some battle scars and age spots, but she has the beauty in her spirit.

Here is her S/N Tag as it came from the factory. Not too good a picture but you will be able to make out the S/N.

A shot of the way that we will be mounting the Dyna Coils. You can see how I colored in the "DYNA" name in red to give them a better look

This is how her tank is staring to shape up. The next step for the tank is to clean the inside, de-rust it and coat it.

Here is one of her forks. You can see that they are have been neglected and show serious "scars", but help is on the way!!!!!!
You can see in the next picture that we have disassembled and have media blasted the lower fork with chopped glass. We will powder coat them in Stainless Steel and top it with matte clear to give it a nice look. This is to keep with the color scheme of the engine http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=27633.0. Pictures to follow.
We have purchased new tubes from Frank's http://www.frankmain.qpg.com/ I will post the pictures of the news later.

The rims were in pretty rough shape so the best thing to do was to media blast them and powder coat them. These are picture of one of the original OEM rims that came with bike after media blasting and powder coating. The powder is "Chrome" with a matte clear powder on top and was done by good friend Tony at http://powder-pro.net/.
What do you all think?

Now some pictures of a few of the parts that are going on La Pastinaca that I am very proud of.
The upper tree was made for us by Bullit and we polished it to a mirror finish. Even though it came out real nice and did look like chrome, I went ahead and had i chromed locally by Mike of http://www.chabys.com/. A great guy. He was chroming all the chrome parts for my son's build, http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=32957.0, that Joey of DWMS is doing for him,  so I took advantage of that.

You can also see the stainless steel Headlight Bucket Brackets that we will be using. These came from Moto-Lanna. http://www.motolanna.com/ourshop/prod_453493-Headlight-Brackets-Stainless-Triangular-35mm.html

Last item shown for today is the Stainless Steel Rear Shaft Castle Nut that we will be using.
