Copper Pipe Customs - CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER! (DONE..for now. VIDEO!)

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

everything looks sweet! i also like that paint that came with it.

nice start on the seat too! that green foam gets everywhere!

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Great progress, really enjoying your build. keep up the good work. ;D

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Thanks guys - Was a little unsure about the tail shape but I think itll look sweet when its done. Wanted something SLEEK for those 65mph high speed runs! Haha.

I think im gonna try to get to the garage tonight and do some fab on the battery pan under the seat. Gotta figure out how to hide it. Was gonna try to put it in the hump but the bracket that holds the seat pan is in the way.

this battery is all the rage.
Itll hide better cause its small.
Its cheap.
& it eliminates the pesky electric starter....pshh who needs one anyways.

I dont have one. Troys bobber does & so on.

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

+1 On this battery. small and powerful enough for these little bikes. I bought one for my 350 and it works great. Its $5 more than when I bought it a month ago though ???

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

+1 on those batteries. Good stuff. Kickin over the 175 shouldnt ever be too hard anyway! Why dont you cut a hole out of the center of the seat pan, right in front of where your ass will be, and recess a "pan" into it that would house the battery. When you have the seat covered have them add a velcro or zippered access panel. Your ground wire could run to the frame on the hinge side, and the positive would just need a little slack in it so you could open the seat. I hope that made sense. It may work out...

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Thanks guys! Thats the battery I was looking at. Due to my rearsets however, and the recent discovery that my starter motor DOES work - I was considering keeping it........ What are my options?

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

I think you can just bend the kickstart arm out a tad to clear your motobits. Search "cb200 remix" on here. Nates build is bonkers, & Im pretty sure he just bent out his arm. 200 is the same frame

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

my rear set is in the way as well... what i did is get rid of the spring that hold the peg down... and run abolt with loc tite... i can move the peg to to the up possition and it will stay there and gives me just enough room to get my fat foot past it... i miss my center stand while kicking!!!
actually kicked it over for the first time 3 days ago! ha ha ha figured got to baby the starter

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Thanks homies -

Curbcast, yeah I thought about it - I was also told that i can put a 360 lever on there and its arc is much larger than the one there now.

Joe,

The motobits rearsets are bolt on pegs, Id have to carry around the BFW (big fuckin wrench) haha

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Joe's got a pretty good idea there. Most guys I've seen bend the kick starter to clear the peg. The standard battery for the 200 isn't that big anyway. You should be able to get a sealed battery big enough to handle it and small enough to hide. Check out Hotfunks "half a cb 350" build he used a yuasa YT-4B-BS that looks really small. Also check out Zonda's "Powder coat or Polish" build. He did a whole tutorial on batteries, really interesting stuff. You know, thinking about it now, on such a small bike I bet that battery we are looking at would handle the starter on your 175.

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

you should swap out the solid mount peg then for a flip up... would work great! and you can kick it no problem!

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

I bent my kicker and got rid of the starter so I have never tried the battery with a starter.
here's a pic of the kicker

_MG_7618.jpg

it's angled forward to clear my leg but it springs back to vertical when you go to kick it (if that makes sense).
These things kick really easy so the loss of the starter is no biggy. saves a bit of weight though...

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Woooo! That bent up lever actually looks really awesome to me!

Yo Curb: I got my stainless kit at rustyriders - Havent installed it yet but I think it was cheap - like 14 bucks maybe?

Thanks though guys!

Going straight to that garage after work! Girls gonna be mad, friends are gonna be mad! My life is suffering and I love it!

My turn signals came in so Ill probably slap those on to have a look. I really wanna do my seat but its so insanely cold! Cant be having the door on the garage open :(

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Also, im not doggin you man... I still havent heard back from the guy about that shop in the LV. Sorry... He just sorta vanished.

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

Curb I got them from Lovell, he sorted them from a specialist bolt supplier. Swapped him a tank I had sitting around for them and a coil.

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

GOT IT! I cant personally vouch for them, but I have heard really good things. They specialize in scooters (vespas, and lambrettas mainly i think) but should definatly be able to hook you up. I may take my motor there to get freshened up also.

Re: My CL175 Build Thread - THE TIGER!

I didn't see a pic of your bike with the side stand up and the rear sets on. Wondering if you have any issues with it? I'm about to start work on my rearsets for my CB350 and it looks to be in a similar location to the side stand on yours. Have you run into any issues? Have a pic with the stand up?
