Hey guys,

This is a CB550 that I am building for a customer, it came to me disassembled and with the Benjie's Cafe kit.

The plan is a very traditional cafe racer with all new part and better technology.

Here it is assembled.

We are going for the less is more look on this bike, luckily I just started taking machining classes this semester.

Re: CB550 Cafe

frame modifications

I smoothed down some tabs and cut off the shock gussets, and sub-frame supports. Then I made up some new ones out of 1" tubing.

up next is new shock mounts and foot peg mounts.

Re: CB550 Cafe

This was purchased by the owner but by the looks of it, I would say it is a dolphin kit. no official weighing but I bet the tank weighs 20-30 lbs and the seat weighs around 10-15lbs. FYI

Re: CB550 Cafe

Re: CB550 Cafe

That polishing looks awsome, bet that took you a while to do and I bet you were covered in crap, LOL.

Re: CB550 Cafe

Polishing looks superb, are you doing that at home with what set-up? What is your plan for the rear suspension, laydown twin shock?

Re: CB550 Cafe

Thanks guys, I used 100 grit to 300 then wet 600, 1000, and 1500. This was just done at home with a typical buffing wheel with two different types of buffing wheels and compounds (white then blue).

The plan with the rear suspension is to water jet brackets then use a through bolt in the stock position, with 14.5" shocks with a 1" mount extension. The pilot is 6'3".

Re: CB550 Cafe

I am very inspired to do some polishing.
Never have cared but those pieces look great.

Re: CB550 Cafe

Well I sent some stuff off to be powder coated, I just got done roughing the fiberglass extension on the tank (I didn't like the gap before) and plugging the tail light up. I am taking lunch then taping the motor for paint and marking holes in the rear drum, side case and rotor to be milled out.

Re: CB550 Cafe

Hey guys, here are the new updates.

I made a kickstand puck with my logo on it (company website and ect coming soon)

The owner and I got the the design figured out for the holes in the rear drum. When I went to use the rotating table, my school did not have any t-nuts that fit into the t slots, I made one up today minus the hole and will make the rest tomorrow. I should have rear drum brake drilled out and if the Cobalt bit came in I should have the front disc milled out this week as well.
