Made the side covers look smaller and also made a plate for the bar clamp

That's much nicer ;) While I wouldn't have said anything because it's your bike, those covers were too big and just drew the eye straight to them. Now they're a nice detail and don't dominate. The missus was right ;)

cool bike.

Re: CB400/4 UK Build

That looks really nice. Nice build as well. Can i ask, hows the insurance on that thing now with the modifications? Im worried that if i get myself a little crotch rocket to turn it to a cafe' racer with just cosmetic mods that its going to cost me to much.

Re: CB400/4 UK Build

Thanks guys, On the insurance side it made little odds, All iv changed is the
seat ,handelbars and a none performence can!!! from the stock bike. But i did tell them.
My insurance was £80.00, Bike insured for £2,000 and its covered for any shows i put it in.
Its Classic bike insurance cover, i thought it was good and i can cover 3,000 miles a year!!!

On another note here in the UK its school hols and the internet is sooooooooooo slow
i cant get photobucket to down load photos of how i made the plate but i will keep trying ???
Thanks for your input on this build and ALL comments are welcome good or bad.

Re: CB400/4 UK Build

Heres how i made the plate
i have 22mm round bar and 2" 5mm flat bar
P1050467.jpg

cut the round bar in two
P1050469.jpg

rough shape the flat bar
P1050470.jpg

get a polished finish on it
P1050471.jpg

then bolt it on and grind to fit (cant show that as this is a reconstuction)
then fit to bike

Re: CB400/4 UK Build

Very clever, and cleans it up really nicely. Thanks for the reply about insurance...i completely forgot about the classic insurance...gocompare makes you lazy ::)

Re: CB400/4 UK Build

Excellent and simple - you should move this bit to the $50 mod thread. -MBS

P1050484.jpg

P1050481.jpg

Re: CB400/4 UK Build

In the end i went with the curved look
P1050488.jpg

I had to drill holes in the bar clamp to thread the wires through (not fun)

P1050492.jpg

P1050489-2.jpg

P1050493.jpg

Re: CB400/4 UK Build

Really nice mod there, much better with the lights and new speedo. ;) The ignition switch is a tough one, but it looks pretty good where you have it. -MBS

Re: CB400/4 UK Build

Thanks Ian ya loads of hours, blood, sweat and swearing but all for the joy of the ride

Re: CB400/4 UK Build

That light bar is really nicely done and works well and tidies up the top clamp nicely. Nice one Cyril.

The changes to the side covers are a great improvement too. In it's next round of changes, one thought is to replace the trim along the bottom edge of the seat with body colour to continue the line from tank to tail.

Good luck at the show.

Re: CB400/4 UK Build
