This happened on the way to Sturgis '03 If you have a BSA check your crankshaft endplay.

That bike is wicked, the stance is damn mean. How big of a mess did the rod make of the cases/crank....not too pretty I'm sure.

Thanks, this is the left side rod, I was running about 80 mph when it happened. The rear tire locked up and a skidded to a stop. I was on the Interstate in Denver when it happened. The cases weren't too bad, a couple gouges from all the crap spinning around in there. It did break off a connecting tab right below the cylinders, but I was able to weld that back together. Other damage - broke to bottom of the cylinder off, the piston, and ruined the crankshaft, so it was a pretty good mess inside.

thanks for all the comments, its been a fun bike. Its had 10" apes, FLH front fender as a rear topped with a sparto.
I still have to ad some stuff to be legal here. If I could I would run it like it is, maybe with a little rail on the back of the seat to keep me on. When you hit a good bump on a hardtail, theres no way your staying on the seat.
Thing still to do;
-Aluminum fenders front and rear, the front will most likely come back off after inspection
-small tail light on sissy bar
-The front hub is a mini drum, I've never had the lever to operate it and have only run with a rear brake, I plan on getting that working.
-I'm going to finish stripping down the frame, it was hardtailed in the 70's, all the welds have been molded, so I'm going to get all that out, and clean up any of the welds that need it.
-Shorten the forks a little
-Get some high pipes that run down the left side

That bike is just so hot. Motorcycle Porn. Once the daily rider Rat/Cafe Enfield is finished I have to build a hard tail Bob.

I really appreciate you posting this. I see a lot of ugly BSA bobbers and plenty of what not to do. Your bike is simple and done right. Tougher feat that it looks. Cannot wait to get my box of a BSA rolling.

Agree with everyone. Awesome bike. If you don't mind I think I use this for wall paper.
