Hello Ladies and Gents. I've been lurking here for a while, but am now sharing my build project. I'm chronicling it on my YouTube channel - Urban Monk TV. Link to the first episode of this GS550 build here

3 Episodes so far. I'm committed to seeing this thing all the way through, including the videos. Hope you enjoy.

After completing a restoration on a 1981 CB900C, I bought this bike a year and a half ago in Minnesota (where I was living at the time) I rode it for a while. Life brought me to the Los Angeles and I brought the bike with me. I rode it on the Distringuished Gentleman's Ride here

and the Venice Vintage Motorcycle Club's Annual Ride

but eventually lost compression in one cylinder. So, it's time for a rebuild.

And while I'm at it, I'm going to cafe it. (That's a verb here right?).

I'll upload some pics here once I figure out how to do that, but my focus will be on the videos.

I welcome any ideas and support from you knowledgeable folk. I'm a decent garage mechanic, but there's always new territory to be covered with every project and this one is no exception.

Welcome in mate great strip down / build thread ,puts my gs550 project efforts to shame :-[ , look forward to more updates & video's mate always here for Q&A's bud .

Thanks yorkie350. Happy to be here. As I mentioned, been lurking for years. This is a fantastic site/resource. Thanks in advance for the help. I may need some along the way. I'm committed to trying to keep this a low budget project as I think that is most helpful to others. I'm assuming most don't want to spend thousands. That said, when you are sticking to a budget sometimes you need to get very creative - hopefully the collective wisdom here will help me through those moments. I'm just doing it to relax. I'm equally happy with a throttle grip or a wrench in my hand. All the best to you.

Cool project man!always nice to see someone put effort in doing videos!
Just one little thing:Would be great if you put the things you do in the video in the title "camchain tensioner removed","removing cylinder bank"...

cheers!

Thanks Ryan. That's a good idea. I'll try to get around to doing that in the coming weeks. Might take me a bit as my free time for this project, and all it's surrounding tasks, is stretched thin. Loving it though. Good living. Best.
