Before I tackle this next issue... (clutch)

Been Around the Block
Yesterday, got the bike started for the first time in my ownership. It sounds great!

Put it up on a paddock stand, grabbed the clutch lever and put it in first...

The rear wheel started under power before I could release the clutch lever. The clutch seems engaged no matter the position of the lever.

So, aside from reading the manual about the adjustments on the clutch lever, what else do I need to consider in solving this issue?

ETA: Oh yeah; its a 1972 Honda CB500.

good news....i had the same issue but realized that when the rear wheel is off the ground its going to spin no matter if the clutch is pulled in or not. you can only test your clutch with the bike on the ground as the weight of the wheel alone isnt enough to stop the plates from spinning
