"CBass" -- Yamaha Virago XV750 Cafe Build (Finished!! Updated with Pics and Vid)

Re: "CBass" -- Yamaha Virago XV750 Cafe Build

Nice, guys! Mine took weeks to inspect, clean, and paint. Surprisingly, my starter gears were in fine shape and the magnet didn't have many shavings. Bonus!

Starter and gears look good. I was thinking of upgrading to a 4 brush starter down the road.

Update - I dont have a welder so I went to visit my friend Wompy.

I purchased a Benelli Tank back in 2011 before these became a hot commodity. We needed to widen the tank a bit to fit over the frame and fill in the ugly gap on top. He then CNC'd some brackets to secure and lift the tank. He then welded a bracket onto the frame that holds the rear shock rebound adjuster.

- 78' XS650 36 Spoke Front Hub
- 86' xv700 36 Spoke Rear Hub
- 18x3 D.I.D. 36 Spoke Front Hoop from Bucannan's
- 15x3 D.I.D. 36 Spoke Rear Hoop from Ebay
- Powdercoated Hoops 60% Gloss Black
- Custom Stainless Steel Spokes by Bucannan's

Took a snapshot of before I dropped it off. They needed the rear hub to measure to my specs. Rear hoop needed spokes and lacing 10mm from center of spline.

Re: "CBass" -- Yamaha Virago XV750 Cafe Build

Just finished cleaning up in the garage. Luckily I have a very understanding wife letting work on my bike while she watches her TV shows 8)

Got to assemble part of the bike night. I picked up my wheels from Bucannan's today. They look amazing!!

- Frame mounted
- Installed All Balls Tapered Bearings
- New All Balls front bearing kit
- Test fitted new front wheel (D.I.D Aluminum 18 x 3)
- Machined steel spacers to test fit new front rotor (MikeXS)
- Mounted Bridgestone Spitfires F&R

I am thinking of just of leaving on the machined spacers instead of CNC'ing a solid spacer. They are spaced correctly and the center of the rotor still fits in the hubcentric part of the hub. There is no wobble and within .002 inches of room when spinning the wheel. What do you guys think?

Very nice build! taking care of business - i like!

Re: "CBass" -- Yamaha Virago XV750 Cafe Build

If the existing spacers work OK - I'd use them. But then I don't have facilities / skill to make a bespoke one ! ::)

The side view pic of your frame / engine has given me some new ideas on modifying the main frame - thanx.

Very nice work BTW. 8)

I'll go with that for now. Once the bike is running, I have a better idea of what direction with the spacers.
