Hi all,

I have been absent for a while as I had sold my last build (http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=43587.0) and decided to go without a bike for a while.

Well that idea didn't last very long and was offered a deal on an 88' Moto Guzzi Le Mans IV for the low price of $600.
The bike runs but has no electrics, which is not really an issue for me as I will be attempting to rebuild it from scratch.

I'm thinking of restoring it to a conservative cafe look, a little like my other build with the GS450. I thought I might use this forum again to show any progress and welcome everyones comments and support. Hopefully this will be a great build.

Well here she is....

feckin' bargain, for $600 you can't go wrong, worth way more than that in pieces
where in aus are you? theres good and bad guzzi shops in most states, maybe get folks opinions on here
oh and having no electrics on an italian bike is always a good starting point........they weren't going to work anyway.
from memory guzzis of that vintage happily accepted fiat alternators (and possibly starter motors) in their quest for reliability. probably loads of info on various guzzi forums
as for the look, i'd stick with its current bodywork and go for the 80s endurance racer look (twin Cibie spotlights mounted externally on the front of the fairing and a period factory team paintjob)

Hi Spotty I'm in Canberra. I know of a few Guzzi specialists around so I should be right with the harder tasks, but will probably try and gets the electrics done myself soon. It's a good excuse to buy a Dynatek ignition anyway.

$600 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Has the seller sobered up yet and realised what he's done.

bargain of the century.

Cafe Racer IMO

Damn, $600 sounds like you better ride it like you stole it, because you just about did!! What a beautiful bike, and I love the look of the endurance racers of that period. I have to disagree on the outside mounted lights, I know it is somewhat period correct, but....
I'll be watching this one.
