I have been doing some searching... and two things.
1. Suzuki is under-represented on DTT.
2. There seems a growing number of GS's being turned to Café Racers.
I have a GS that I have started building. Let's accumulate knowledge! (I know, I know.... we will never be able to touch the like of http://thegsresources.com/ but we can still use this thread as a "show and tell" if nothing else. Come on! Share your knowledge and bikes.... share your problems and let us of lesser intelligence know how you fixed them!
As a disclaimer... there may already be a thread like this here. If so, please both forgive me and point me to it. Thanks.
By the way, I am from the Kingston area (in Ontario).
So... I have a late '77-'78 GS750. It is in pieces.. it looks like this....
still pretty rough around the edges, but its coming along! wanna do some changes here and there, but he summer is coming so it can wait,.. love the tin shack btw!
'77 GS750B currently in about 7 places in the garage.
I can tell you a few things about the 750 B Model.
It has a difference rear master cylinder to the rest with the Res on the top rather than remote.
Only one disk for the front brake.
Spoked Rims.
Bore x Stroke: 65 x 56.4 mm
Displacement: 748
Compression Ratio: 8.7:1
Disk brake size: 292mm
started this '77 GS400B project since the end on 2013...
here she is as of the moment. it takes so long for parts to arrive from the US to where i am half way across the globe. i got progressive suspension shocks and springs coming, most of the engine parts have arrived but i just ordered a Tacho Driven Gear a couple of days ago so that's going to take ahwile to get here. the Dynatek coil system just arrived too.
Hey thanks everyone for posting. I love looking as GS projects.
Hosier Daddy... a Q. Those triangle frames sections where the passenger pegs used to be mounted, I see you have ground them off. Did they serve any other purpose? Like holding the original exhaust? I would really like to grind mine off for a more simplified look... but not sure if that would be a mistake. I got my frame disassembled already so not sure if that triangle area is important.
Yep, those not only are the mounts for the passenger pegs, but also the factory exhaust mounts and the center stand cushion. now that it's done I wish I would have left them on. The corner holes from the exhaust mounting would have been about right for rearsets....I am thinking of turning this into a more dedicated Dragbike and they may have been used for the wheelie-bar mounts. :
I have already ground off my center stand mounts (wish I hadn't actually as I could have just removed the center stand and remounted when needed), but for what it is worth. I saw a full GS750 stand on eBay for 75$. If you are going in the drag direction.. not a bad price. I didn't see how much the shipping cost was though... that might be pricey!
On another note, since this thread was dedicted to Sa-zook tips...
The factory part numbers for bolts on the micro-fische that you can find on the various parts suppliers websights contain the actual metric size of the fastener. That way you can figure what you need for a replacement from your local hardware store or even get allen head bolts from places like Fastenal much cheaper that OEM.
For example... On this page showing the engine covers, you can buy fastener #9 that is used on the clutch cover in either the orinial phillips head screw (9-1) 02112 or an improved hex head bolt (9-2) 01547 . The last half of the part number after the dash, 06207 tells you it is a 6 x 20mm bolt.
Granted I found a page that shares this info in the description as well, but not all do... so this helps if you are just given the part number.
Here's mine.
Done extensive mods, mostly to make it look more vintage, not to make it faster.
First pic is as I picked it up, second as it stood last summer, done a few more mods since then.
I know I should really be asking this over at GSResources but can I swap just about any GS fork setup into my 77 GS750 frame? I have the older single disk setup but would like to swap to a dual disk.
Anyone have any experience with this... I have heard GS's were highly interchangeable but I have no exp. to back that up with.
