That's an ok price IMHO. What sort of bearings are in the new mags?

Re: BMW 1974 R90/6 Restore (for now)

I pulled the front spoked rim off and test fit the lester mag. I think that the tires that came on the lesters are to big, the wheel won't fit between the fender mounting bracket.

Deflate the tire a bit - that's pretty typical on some bikes. What are the tire sizes?

Of course if the Lesters don't work out for you.... :D

Lol. The stock spoked rims are bent, I'll probably put the hubs on ebay or advridr

Re: BMW 1974 R90/6 Restore (for now)

So i just found out that the lester mag bering diameter is much smaller than the stock one :-(

I can just swap the innards correct? (I'll need new berings of course)

Usually a bearing swap is all that's needed.
You may have some fun with spacers if the stockers aren't quite right for the Lesters.
See if you can see any numbers on the bearings that are currently in the Lesters. THat will tell you the OD of the bearings as well as the width.
THen source new bearings with the old OD and Width, but the correct ID for the axle.

BMW wheel bearings are odd beasts, at least compared to most of what we have.

They're tapered bearings, not sealed roller bearings that just pop in and out as a single unit. There are a whole host of spacers and shims in there too.

To get the bearings out of a BMW hub, you need to put the axle on the hub, with some spacers so you can create pre-load on the bearings. Then you have to heat the hub to around 250 degrees and drive the entire stack out as one piece.

When I decided to replace mine (I was relacing the rims, replacing tires etc.) I sent my hubs to Woody's Wheel Works in Colorado. They do a swap and replace the BMW bearing stack with a more typical set of sealed bearings and simple spacers. Also bead blast and clear coat the hubs - look like new when they come back.

The Lesters might have a more simple bearing setup than the BMW's. Look into it a bit before trying to remove them from the wheels. Got a pic of the Lesters close up?

I'd go with sealed bearing

Take that retaining ring/dome off the front Lester. If it has that, which looks identical to the BMW front hub, then it's likely the same internals. If someone in the past swapped out the bearing for a smaller axle, then perhaps the spacers inside are larger diameter and will work with your axles if you swap back to the right size bearing. However, if the wheels were setup for a smaller axle in the first place, the internal spacers will be too small as well.
