Here we go people this is my third project gonna be a slow burner due to funds unless I sell one of my other projects .
Its a gs 550 "78 from Minnesota in good condition for its age was a non runner but got it ticking over on carb cleaner will have her running before any tear down.
Looking for a modern finish caferacer style maybe even mix a couple of makes together ? heres a couple of pics to wet your appetite see you soon and " HAPPY NEW YEAR" to all of ya lets have a great 2017 ride safe peeps .
A little progress, took off the carbs stripped down to clean and oh boy they needed it , ended up buying new gaskets and jets the rest cleaned up ok one of the slides was trash so had to source a new one turned up trumps( no pun intended ) in USA.
So now the carbs are surgical clean inside just gotta polish up the outside and that's a job ticked off the list fitted back on the bike and got the old girl running sweet as a nut yeah heres a few picks of how it went slow progress but hey its going forward haha . Think i've managed to load up a couple of videos of her first start up in 15 years second vid shows she's blowing a little oil probably from being stood so long cos after running and letting her cool down then restarting 1st vid shows she's cleared up so happy days .
Also you can see i've being doing a little cleaning up and stripping down of the old girl helps you to see any future hic-ups and done a little marking up ready from trimming the frame gotta shed weight ( not just me haha) here's the link to the vids www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc62hiMfMKk&feature=em-upload_owner

A little more progress got rid of a little more ballast decided to go for a twin disc front end upgrade gonna use one from a gs650e "81 parts look in good condition and fair price compared to USD front end been sneaking a few parts from E-bay for the build including a seat unit here's a few pics of the strip down and small pile of new bits to make sense of my ramblings.
Always good to chop chop chop, haha sorting out for a rear hoop, also gonna fit an LED into it gonna be a mix of old & new .Carbs back off so I can polish them up, will go thru wiring loom but its not looking too bad .
Yep hope it will look ok, gonna paint the indents a different colour to rest of seat unit a bit like knee dents you get in a tank and with a bit of luck i'le try to have knee dents in the tank that will be a first haha just put the new front forks / discs / calipers on today makes it look a lot sportier at last starting to get the project juices flowing haha, heres a couple of pics of how the front is gonna look .
Well progress always gonna be slow cos ime saving for parts and waiting for bits to turn up but any progress is good eh ? so managed to get some more bronze bar to turn a couple of spacers one for above the drive chain also drilled & turned a dust cover down to fit the r/h disc.
Want to tear her down but need to pick up a 4into1exhaust set up beforehand got some rad colour ideas so wheels gonna be stripped down so rims can be powder coated any way heres a couple of pics of how slow its goin
Hi peeps bit of an update been slowly gathering a few parts and getting a few idea's for the exhausts while stripping and cleaning up a few parts here's a few pics of how things are progressing (slowly)haha
First re-fit the rear engine bolt and spacer to see the effort of my mini lathe , also cleaned up the inner of the rear drum brake and got new shoe's too, started to sand and polish the rear drum cover .
Here's a few more pics of the project did a bit of a scale drawing for rear of bike with rear frame hoop going for integrated led light bar so cut the hoop ready to take strip led ,also stripped the front brake calipers and cleaned out glad to see they are in great condition but needed new pads also a change of colour going for the classic gold look
YEAH ! exhausts turned up so can start sorting out for position and brackets ,soon as that's done will be able to finish tearing her down ,like wheels and motor out, here's a couple of pics of exhausts not bad for £45 each brand new from E-bay (bargain )
Cheers lads gonna be a bit of old 'n new ,style wise. Still searching for a classic Ducati style tank had ago at first fit of em probably cut off the rear bracket stuff n fab up my own started by cutting of the original silencers ( I know what a waste but cheaper than a new full set up )here's a few pic's of what ime on about, the last pic I tried my first attempt at photo shop a drawing of removed brackets and new brackets to mock up for exhaust and rearsets .Not sure if they need angled up a little more ? what do you guys think all suggestions will be considered haha.
Hi mate they are pretty good quality for like $45 each not sure about shipping costs worth a look tho, just go to the link and type GP exhausts in shop search .
Got a little done ,1mm mild sheet steel arrived so marked up cut n folded then out with the puddle gun and did a little welding ( to a fashion) decided to fit the ignition on the side of it . Got a bit of finishing to make it look good but my welding skill is pants glad there,s bondo in the cupboard haha.
