Title: Music to wrench to
Post by: sheerstatic on Nov 20, 2013, 16:09:21
I'm sure there are already posts about this somewhere, but let's start a new one. I was inspired by DP Custom's instagram feed, where they are wearing shirts of bands they wrench to. Here are some artists/albums I am listening to while working on my project, or just working in general. These are more in the rock/folk genre. I'll do another post later of other genres if you are interested.

Ha Ha Tonka - Lessons

Leagues - You belong here

Little Hurricane - Homewrecker

Arctic Monkeys - AM

Eels - Souljacker

Foals - Holy Fire

Big Black Delta - Big Black Delta

Monkey Wrench - Foo Fighters (yes there is a pun there, laugh dammit!)

Just about anything from Everclear

Every now and then I like some electronic so Glitch Mob, Daft Punk, C2C and Beats Antique if you're into that stuff

Ben Rector.

And the classics:

Def Leppard

Van Halen

Led Zeppelin

And then some older Linkin Park

Good topic man. Feels weird to work in the shop without music! I even have a playlist on my phone called Shop Music.

I prefer heavy/hard rock music. Anything actually that gets you pumped and motivated.

Nonpoint
RATM
Black Label Society
Korn
The Sword
Pantera
Tool
Hed PE
Machine Head
etc..

Could be just about anything depending on the mood when I show up at the garage. The most regularly played are probably...

Murder By Death
The Misfits
The Pixies
Eagles of Death Metal
Alice In Chains
Danzig
SLAYER!!!!!!!
Flogging Molly
Avett Bros
Motorhead
Wu Tang (they're for the children)
Ministry
System Of A Down
Tool
Deftones
Thin Lizzy
NIN
Skrillex
Waylon Jennings

And so on and so on...

Title: Re: Music to wrench to
Post by: ronnie on Nov 20, 2013, 22:22:47
Wayling Jennings huh? One of the captains on here listens to Willies Roadhouse on xm radio.. So I listen to that way old country until he gets off watch haha! Some of its not bad, some good, but others can put me to sleep up here on the bridge!

I see a lot of metal and heavy rock listed here, some hyped up fellas here! Haha, I laugh because as I'm writing this I'm listening to Stryper.

Cool that you listen to classical Troy, soothing and calm, helps think things through and not rush. That's why I like trance, usually it's mellow and doesn't have words so it's nice background music. Used it and classical when I studied for 2 months for my license tests.

I'm usually too lazy to hook up anything to the stereo in the garage so I typically listen to CBC Radio 2 which normally plays classical music at the times I wrench. Lunch times are when I get most of my work done and Tempo with Julie Nesrallah (http://music.cbc.ca/#/Tempo) is on at that time, my fav.  :) Lunchtimes are my favorite time of the day; house to myself, good music and wrenching.

If I do hook my phone up, I listen to Tool, Deftones, Rush, Tragically Hip, Puscifer, Smashing Pumpkins, APC, etc.

I love these threads because I love finding new music.  My list would include all the above except for those I haven't heard of but will look up later.

Add a few like No!se, Pistol Grip, US Bombs, Fugees(The Score), The Forgotten, Distillers, Snuff, Virus Nine, The Gits, Street Dogs, The Control, L7, The Dirtbombs, ....................   and old Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, ................

But live is best.  I go to every show that sounds interesting that I can, hell I've even seen Dave Brubeck live.

At the present moment, Presley on vinyl...now that's music.
Usually listen to CFNY the Edge 102.1 when I'm in the fab shop, not as good as it used to be when it was an independent station operating out of a basement in Brampton (it's part of the Corus family now) but still gets the job done most of the time.
Depending on the project I'm working on, the mood I'm in or what I can pick up on the tube, could be anything from the 50's to recorded just 10 minutes ago... a little bit Buddy Holly, a little bit the Mounties...
Pat.

Just found this. No order on mine. I have noticed the more calm the music the less broken bolts there are.

The Black Keys (new album is odd but everything else is solid)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f5L3qqHLCw

J. Roddy Walston & The Business (dude, this band live was all kinds of fun)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fn8Mf6zHLgM

Fleet Foxes ( listened to this while driving all over Michigan for a week, beautiful music)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdN2bfov9JQ

Andrew Bird
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojBFKzZ8MOs

Andy McKee (Sunday driving or some peaceful wrenching/cooking/eating/walking/staring at a wall/sleeping music)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSnWhsmlGec

Obvious jams..

Bob Marley
Pearl Jam
Led Zeppelin (Favorite album is "II" by far)

Such a great band - their live shows were a trip.  Think they still tour, well worth getting your freak on and checking them out if they end up anywhere near you.  I know one of the members, used to sell my shit next to him at markets.  Man, Pungent Effulgent.  Thanks for the reminder, that album is long overdue a play around here

I don't smoke weed but still love my some Ozric. Then again I have a lot of appreciation for the weird and the taboo, not that Ozric really applies, but to the mundane it's often too much. I have something like 20 plus Ozric recordings, mostly live.

I'm in the mancave/shop/sanctuary after 9pm usually. So the shop radio is tuned to the local classic rock station. Alice Cooper's radio shop is on at that time so it's whatever he plays. Saturday nights, its Dee Snyder after Alice. Good tunes and stories.

If you truly love "music", and not just "songs", you should check out more of the Playin for Change vids.
This hits home for me as my Dad, when he "retired", became a street musician (and Played for Change) for a while.
Not because he needed to, but because he wanted to. He simply loved playing music.
"Playin For Change" records musicians all over the world, singing/playing the same song, in their own/cultural styles.

Awesome stuff ;)

Damn I'm old. I have an FM clock radio with BIG LED numerals in the corner of the garage so I can see what time it is. I keep it on the local oldies station that plays nothing newer than early 70's. My MP3 player on the GL1800 has a very wide variety of music from classical, show tunes, comedy, country, all flavors of rock, Christian contemporary, funk. Sometimes a song will come on at just the right (or wrong) time, like when Sultans of Swing comes on when I hit a twisty section. It just moves me.
