1970 CB175 BUILD.

This is my first motorcycle build (hell, Im just decorating) attempt. Paid $900 for the bike. Plans are aesthetic mods mostly.
Hoping for CL pipes.
Clubmans.
Home made seat (super secret, might fail).
CL headlamp.
Paint.
Rear sets

Im 6' 2'' tall, 165lbs. Ive sat on bigger bikes (which frankly scare me) so I figured this is a sensible start. 750s etc. with drop bars would feel like wrestling a dragon. No?

Hoping to get this on the road for spring.

Any ideas/links/pictures for inspiration would be killer.

Enjoi!

These are true before photos. Havent touched a thing. These photos show most of the visible/notable damage. The right muffler is damaged & has been welded underneath. Though like I said I hope for CL riser pipes.

Got some polishing stuff for starting to clean it up tomorrow.

Some stuff Im looking into....

Can I remove the adjustable steering tensioning system with ease?
Where will I find jets for the stock carbs?

Polished it up last night. Came out better then I thought. I now feel bad for wanting to paint...though it is just.

Has anyone a clear photo of the roccity clipons on there steed? They look cool, just looking for opinions.

Im going to try to make a seat out of cherry wood. Anyone have any thoughts on that? I googled "wooden seat motorcycle" but didnt come up with much.

Heres a ghetto look at what she might turn out as. Want to wrap the pipes in the tan wrap to match up with the wood seat. Dont know about the tank colour yet. Ideas?

I know...Im talking to myself. For documentations sake...last night I cut off the rear spot welded fender.

Just dropped the wheel out & dremel away. I think my CL pipe is here today in the mail.

Gonna use a chainsaw to practice roughing in my seat dimension.

it could turn out cool, it's a very steampunk concept.
think about the way it will tie into the bike very carefully, and the surface finish. there's a couple of directions you can go in terms of style.

Interesting idea.

If you're going with a shaped wood seat, have you thought about a nautical theme? Those old wooden ChrisCraft boats always look very sleek and cool. They're often white or red in the painted areas, but I've seen a few in yacht blue and dark stained wood or sometimes dark green.

Maybe the tank could be yacht blue on top with white bottom?

Cool Idea. I would think you would want to tone down the paint scheme on the bike to let the would be a focal point. maybe something like british racing green, Dark burgundy or another classic solid color.

Are there really brakes inside that tiny little front drum??!!

i just saw this, http://www.bikeexif.com/mule-web-surfer i think it could be the only woodtailed bike you will find

I thought of using wood at one stage. I was going to use marine ply and glue it so the strips ran the length of the seat. I think it could definitely look cool, go for it!
Brass would defo work with it, effect paint on the tank sides or just accessorise.

Yeah wood it is. I really like the exposed ply look of the modern furniture we see these days. but that might be more of a pain then anything. Im just going for a solid chunk to start I geuss. Have some 6x6 hemlock to try my saw skills on.

Hot funk your tank looks so good on that bike. (anyone have one for sale?) Do you have more shots of the og yellow to show? I might be into knocking in my side panels, though I cant decide.

Got the CL pipes in from Nate today. From the "cb200 remix" build on here. I might change em up a bit, but they look sexy. Where will I find jets to tune it?

Called it with the bronze. I have a guitar with a paint combo called "rootbeer" gold bronze fleck on a black brown base.
With the soft wood tan seat. I was thinking a rich tank, & wood headlight clamps? tan pipe wrap. I might get the ducati scoop as well. Black rims etc...well see.

I think the rearsets are in the mail.

Oh & I did find that wood seat photo you posted Liam. Rad rad.

Hey heres a photo of the pipes.

The front shock guard...top right of picture. Whats underneath/behind that? Im not going to take the bike apart until the snow flys. Just wondering for now, before I figure it out on my own.

Is the diameter of the fork tube 31mm where the clipons are usually put?

Hotfunk. Did you modify your original headlight arms to fit the clipbars? Your bars look like they fit high & drop.

I was looking through the boat images. Id love to do an east coast pastel/driftwood bike. That would be so gorgeous! Might not be what Im looking for in this build, but I can totally see it.

fork tube is 31mm. I had to cut down the top tube cover for my bars to go on. mine are cbx 250 bars that are flipped upside down to give the lower height. i had to bore them out to fit as I think they were 29 or 30mm. I love those pipes, rare as rockin' horse shit over here. By the way the shock tube is behind that cover you mentioned and the silver part is where the fork seals are.

Heres without signals/seat/fender. I love the colour coordinated blinker cords. Ill never mess that up! The bike looks so small without the seat. I also sawed up some hemlock to practice my skills on roughing in the seat. Used a rasp to smooth it out. Im really stoked to actually get some hardwood & commit to it.

I think Im going to steal the "nitro heads" seat lines. Really like how the start of the hump is in line with the frame tubing...same angle as well.

Question about my clip-on-age. Can I just shorten the og cables? Aka throttle/brake/clutch? I have to order this stuff...then wait a long time, so Im trying to get the whole shebang. Even though work is slow.....Who cares.
