What does everyone do for their "real" job?
« on: Dec 04, 2009, 18:47:22 »
Just kinda curious as to what people here on DTT do for their real jobs.  I know we would all like to give up our day job and just work on bikes all the time but unfortunately that doesn't pay the bills.  I figured it would be a good oportunity to network a little better with the continually growing and diverse crowd here on DTT.

I make giant photocopies. Really I work in a reprographics shop running large format printers making the moder day equivilent of bluprints for architectural firms and such. I look at it like "hey it beats the hell out of working at Kinkos". ;)

Automotive engineer - have spent my fair share of time doing chassis/suspensions but have mostly been involved in engine design.

Dabble with engineering/making/selling low-volume parts for interesting applications.  Not going to make a career out of it anytime soon.

As the handle implies, I'm an aerospace engineer.  Aircraft structural analysis to be exact.  Designing what jonescafe will be building in a few months.......maybe.

Hey Gage!  You didn't tell us what you do.

Stereotypical steel mill honky. Actually a large scale machinist. The parts that we do are the some of the biggest of their kind in the world.
Currently working on a 30,000 pound emergency shut off valve for an oil line.

And Swagger, I didn't know that roosters need stunt doubles!

Sounds like a couple of you guys and my brother (owner of the Oregon CB750) have something in common.  He got aircraft mechanic of the year for the Million Air company this year.  He's sick of aviation though.  I love rubbing it in when he can't figure out something little on his bike.  I just tell him that if he got aircraft mechanic of the year and he can't even figure out the problem w/ his CB750 carbs it makes me feel real safe to fly.  :D

Oh yeah.  My day job is working for the Oregon State Police as a Forensic Scientist/CSI.  I mainly get to play w/ guns and get paid for it though.  My discipline is Firearms/ Tool Marks Examiner.  Dead bodies and guns, doesn't get much better than that though.  Well except for wrenching on old bikes and cranking out composites.
I also own Central Oregon Desert Racing Association and am promoting a 400 mile desert race (the longest in Oregon history) here in Oregon.  And of course Gage Werke Composites.
