1974 cl125 (going cafe now)

Coast to Coast
i bought this beauty today for $700. it needs the tank and carb cleaned. besides that everything is SPOTLESSS and perfect.

i really dig the high pipe. and i like the shortened front fender. i also like how its a good 250 lbs lighter than my 1978 gs550.

instead of going the cafe route on this one. im gonna shoot for more of a classic bobber. i figure if a bike is a cafe i'd like it to at least be able to pull the ton! haha.

here she is the day i bought it.

as its a beauty right now. i really like the 500 bullet classic on royal enfield's site.

black tank, one pipe, and a nice tan solo seat. if i did anything to it, it would definately be that.

please feel free to share any thoughts on what i should do.

Re: 1974 cl125 project

honestly i would have made a buddie drive home and been taking it apart on the way home lol

Re: 1974 cl125 project

Good luck on your bike, Mike. I dig the knobby tires in the snow pic, I hope you find some like that to put on your bike.

says 185 on the pipe and its definately a honda, probably another old school enduro

its a suzuki ts185 two stroke. i found it on that chopcult site.

i think im def gonna stay with my road tires too.

Re: 1974 cl125 project

when its not raining id like to go out anf get a bunch of good hires photos of it as of no too instead of the poopy camera phone pics.

Re: 1974 cl125 project

hmm no shit, that pipe and the shape on the engine side cover make it look like a honda. either way its a cool bike

Re: 1974 cl125 project

i just cant bring myself to ruin that tank. i just cant do it. so wha im gonna do is find a cb125 or cl125 tank on ebay to restore and paint it, without feeling bad.

Re: 1974 cl125 project

a few questions for anyone that knows. whats the limit for the tank i can use properly? i know a cb100 or 125 or 175 should fit the the cl125. would a 350 be too big? this gas tank on it now is considerably smaller than my gs550.

also, it needs a new battery. it uses a 6 volt. what i noticed on the battery thats in it now that i took out, it has a nozzle on the top with a clear tube running into it. every 6 volt battery ive found doesnt have this. is this necessary? or just something on older batteries?

Re: 1974 cl125 project

i believe thatd be a vented battery your talking about. you can get a sealed battery no problem.

350 tank would be WAYYYYYY too big on that platform. i think a 200 tank would be the absolute biggest you could go on that frame, thats just me.

Re: 1974 cl125 project

so i dont NEED a vented battery, correct?

and yeah im gonna find a 100-125-175 tank. for under $50 or so that will most likely need bondo work.

Re: 1974 cl125 project

yeah get a sealed battery then you can mount it however you want. i have a cl175 and the tank is rusty but fixable....got anything to trade? id offer to trade tanks but that tank is way too nice to trade for one your gonna have to fix. i actually want a nice factory painted tank for my 175 too cuz im gonna make a bobber with it

Re: 1974 cl125 project

only tank i have to trade would be the tank off my 78 gs550. this one exactly (i got a different one that im painting to put on when i cafe this.)
