Friggen cool, man. Nice work.

What is not "running right"?
The carbs are synched, cleaned, have the right jets, it starts right up, but when I want to gun it, it stumbles and sputters and I can't get the bike past 85 mph.

You don't need to spend $400 on Mikuni's.

Buy stock VM34's (get the left and right side carbs - the right side has the idle screw on the opposite side for easy access).  They come with the right slides (2.5).  You'll likely need different needle jet, needle, main and pilot jets.

Find your local Mikuni distributor and get a quote on two VM34's with the setup like I've got below:

Body   VM34
Slides   2.5
Main Jets   190
Pilot Jets   25
Needles   6F9
Needle Jets   P6
Needle Clip   4th from top/2nd from bottom

I'm probably going to go to 200 mains and see how she runs at the top end.  I had the needle at 3rd from the top but raised it one notch as it was running lean.  I have the Boyer ignition on mine which burns a lot of fuel.

I'm running this with UNI pod filters.  Still working the kinks out but she runs!  Also using the 1 into 2 throttle cable from MikesXS and a Tomaselli Super Practic B throttle

Tim,You're my hero. That is exactly what I needed, the specs on what to run if I bought the mikunis elsewere rather than the $400 kit at 650central.

I'm going to try ONE more thing today and if nothing, I will get the mikunis and get back here with the report on how the bike runs.

I have a set of brand new 34's here if you're interested man.  Mounted on my bike once and realized they're too big.  Just stock Sudco carbs.

Kyley, what are you looking to get for them? and what are the specs on it? Can you check against the baseline Tim provided?

I have a pile of jets for them here at the house.  I can probably set you up identical to what he has on his.  i'll check in the shop to make sure for you.  I paid $289 for the carbs, and the throttle assembly with the pod filters.  I'd let the carbs with jets, plus the pod filters go for $150.  I'm using the throttle on mine now since I already cut it to fit Gretta.  You can pick them up for cheap though. They've literally never been on the road.  Just had gas in them once.  Lemme know if that would work.  Or if you have a VM30 (one of them!), I would almost be willing to trade strait up!  I cant find one in the states!

Just PM me.

Ay carumba!  If he doesn't take you up on the offer I'll take them off your hands :)  I had to buy 2 brand new VM34's when I broke one of my bodies.  I can probably get you a VM30 no problem too from our local place.  They have tons of Mikuni stuff in stock.

PM returned buddy!  I have everything you need but the needle jets, and the needles themselves.  Not a biggie though, you'll have to snag another $30 or so in parts.  Just let me know!

They're a little dusty, but good to go otherwise.  I'll clean them up for you.

And Tim, lemme know on your VM30....seems the US is completely out of stock on them.  Got  a couple of Ebay scores coming, but they're always hit or miss....

Thanks for checking in Kyley. I will have to pass though. I had to count the cost and I don't have $$$$ specially after having to fix my truck this past weekend.

Quick update, Got the bike running way better. Well as good as it will get until I rebuild the top end this winter, i have low compression 105 and 120. So this winter I will get new pistons, rings, valves, etc... For now it runs, but can't do the TON. But at least it get's to 85-90mph
Decided to update my throttle switch to a newer one and without the bicycle lever for the decompresor cable. Also replaced my worn out GT grips for these ones:

Ok, so I'm resurrecting this thread to update some of the other mods I have done in the past year and what I am doing now.

One of the many things I had to do last year was to fix my charging issue, the first was to figure out why my voltage output was going crazy.
I ended up pulling a newer (19982) rectifier regulator out of an Yamaha XJ750 Seca that I had, and with help from Pamco Pete himself, wired it and modified my bike to take the newer unit.

Part of the job was to install nylon screws on the brushes and do some minor rewiring.

This is the rec/reg. units I mounted on the side of the battery tray.

I later had other recurring charging issues where there was not or little voltage output, after more research and work, it turned out my brushes were extremely worn. Replaced those and I was back in the game.

I even started to build a fiberglass seat for the bike (not yet finished)

I rode the bike with its tired engine for another few months.

I was having issues with acceleration, I jetted and rejected and even bought Mikuni’s in the end, nothing helped.
I had 95 psi compression on the left cylinder and 100 on the right cylinder.

Finally I worked up the will to do the job, and my 12year old son helped me a lot
.

I took my head and jugs to the machine shop.

I saw that my timing was off due to the cam chain, almost ten degrees.
This is with the cam at 12 o’clock. Look at the relation to the crank, not lining up.

In the meanwhile I found a cracked ring on my left cylinder, and my chain was badly stretched.

This is the old cam chain sideways.

And the new one

I bought a set of rear sets from member Durgam_K (Chris) and I polished the set before installing.

I also removed the old big tail light I had on my license plate bracket, trimmed the bracket and bought a set from Harrison specialties.
Then I decided to cross drill my rotors.

Got my parts back from the machine shop, I installed my new pistons, rings, cam chain, chain guide, gaskets, seals, valves. I don’t have pics of the whole process, just these.

Now the cam and crank lined up with the new chain.

Slapped the motor back on the frame.

Installed new pipes and mufflers,

Found out chrome was peeling the next day.

Took the new pipes back of so I can get a refund (I did)
Then I installed my blued pipes back on.

And here she is as of August.

I’ve since cleaned my old pipes with Blue Job and they look much better.
Other than that I’ve been riding a lot here and there.

Now I am working on a new battery tray for my lower profile Shorai Battery and relocating the regulator/Rectifier unit and also relocating the starter relay to stream line the bike a little more. I just want to remove that old battery tray and clean things up.
This is what I have so far. I will get that on tonight hopefully.

Well I think that is about it so far.

I love your bike, but now I'm feeling a little like I'm not so creative because you painted your frame a similar color to my plan. I'll just chalk it up to "great minds think alike" because I truly thought I'd be the only person with a hammertone frame, but it looks fantastic.

Man that is exactly what it is. ;-) If you want to be more nique, you can do a copper hammer tone, or red, or any color really. I love the way my frame came out and looks. I get compliments on it all the time and I always refer them to the shop that did the job.
