oh how i envy those with garages/workshops/etc etc.  here she is in her new (temporary) home...my kitchen!
i wanted to mount everything up to see how the wiring would route throughout the bike.  and it's also been a really looooong time since she's been in one piece.  it's nice to see things fitting together  ;D

what ya think of the battery box location?  still need to trim a bit more above the shock mount so the seat fits just a bit lower.  and you can also see the nest of wiring i need to get through over the next couple weeks.

man i can't wait to hear how this exhaust sounds  ;D

got around to trimming down the old seat foam.  i think of got the general shape, but i want to put a layer of memory foam.  i'm kinda tempted to cut a portion of the memory foam pad that's on my bed  ???

and i gotta get the fiberglass seat pan goin too

HA! Cutting up your matress to finish your bike is some real dedication.

Looks great! Kinda scares me to have the battery that low seems a bit scary. Wouldnt want something smacking into it while your flying down the road.

haha...well it's actually not the actual mattress...just the memory foam pad that goes on top of the mattress.  I don't think i'll miss a couple square feet  :P

It may just be the camera angle...the battery actually tucks in nicely underneath the gearbox.  And there's a ton of clearance with the ground.

Re: '81 CX500...Round 2? Can't decide on seat
« Reply #45 on: May 19, 2010, 04:28:19 »
Need some opinions.  I can't decide between (a) seat with hump or (b) flat seat with slight upward angle.  I kinda like (b) with the clip-ons that I'm using, which have a higher rise.  And I'm diggin the minimalist look.  But a lot of work already went into (a).  I guess I could just have both and switch to one or the other when I want to change the overall look of the bike.  Opinions?
(a)

(b)

I do like the look of (a) as it follows a line from under the tank to the back quite nicely.  That said (b) is similar to what i'll be doing with my Harlot CX but i'll be running drag bars.  Might have to sit on the fence on this one mate, but if i fall off the fence i'll land on (a).

Re: '81 CX500...Round 2? Seat pan done...ready for upholstery

I finally got to the seat pan...covered the seat with foil and aluminum tape, coated with wax, then few layers of fiberglass and resin.

Now I'm looking forward to getting it upholstered.  Looking for a similar look to this (minus the rivets)

Also got to some electrical relocation.  Ignition is mounted under the seat along with the starter button.

Looking good, but I'd be worried the key will fall out of that barrel??

good question.  but once the key is turned, it seems to be locked pretty securely in place until i turn off the ignition.  If there were more weight  on the key pulling it downward (i won't even be having the key chain on there), then i'd be more concerned.  i think it should be fine.
