Two friends and their CB350's. -Update 6/7 Pg.2

It all started with my good friend Matt's '72 CB350 he got summer 2008, A really clean low mile, all original motorcycle. I needed to have something to ride along on.
First I got my Suzuki GT185, has some decent rideability for around the city but felt I was limited. At this time we were slowly stripping Matt's 350 and playing with bars and exhausts, with that and his two parts bikes I was getting to know the CB350 well.
It wasn't until late this passed season I bought my '73 CB350, the twin to Matt's. I looked for A good amount of time before I found mine, in similar condition to Matt's, but with A high CL pipe, looks aftermarket and too new to be original but no complaints. We've been building Matt's bike all through this Winter, its coming along well considering all the other toys we've been working on. Mine is going slow, I don't have as much of a drive to strip mine down like Matt, however, I get my fix working on his with him.

Now to the good part. Here are more details and progress pictures.
Matt's bike bone stock right when he got it.

Finally, Winter of 08/09 came around, small modifications, it stood like this come Spring. The cut pipes were short lived, and changed back to stock.

Summer 09, Mac 2-1 header with custom exhaust. We rode to Raco testing grounds in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, this was before I had my CB, I rode Matt's RD350.

Shortly after the Mac, Matt picked up A better 2-1 off Ebay. Lost A sidecover badge, bummer.

Re: Twin CB350's Build.

Now its Winter, and we got bored. Matt's got a good job now and it has been showing in his bike.
These pictures are posted in progression over the winter. New seats on his bike and mine, drilled sprocket, new chain, Mikuni VM30's and properly Jetted VM32's to test, clip ons, headlight brackets, braced swingarm, and random other things.

Re: Twin CB350's Build.

nice bikes!

your cl pipes, they are def not aftermarket. If your bike is a cb, they did not come on the bike, but those are honda pipes from a 1970+ cl350. 68 and 69 got the one piece box muffler.

pic of the earlier cl exhaust: http://www.livablelandscape.org/CYCLES/CL350_68broch4.jpg

So consider yourself lucky, because CL pipes in good condition are pretty rare. Far from mint examples can sell for $200 on ebay easy.

Re: Twin CB350's Build.

Matt is my good friend who got me into motorcycles, I got him into cars. The bikes pictured are mine and his.

Thanks for the info Boom, It is titled as A '74 CB350, but the gearing is much different than Matts, I'm curious if mine has A different engine sprocket, we haven't looked into it yet.

Here is A clip testing the VM32's, runs pretty decent just needs some fine tuning.

Re: Twin CB350's Build.

Say - I really dig the way it looked during this stage:

I've got the 350g in green as well - think that is all they came in. I've got a short set of those CL pipes coming via ebay soon - other than the noise, is there any reason why they were short lived? Jetting hard to setup?

Re: Twin CB350's Build.

it cant be a 74... they dont exist.

its a 73 cb350 G model... the only year that had a front disk. those pipes are off of a cl from 70-72 as someone else mentioned.

beautiful bike... good looking build too!

Re: Twin CB350's Build.

The cut pipes were on Matt's bike, this was before I had my motorcycles, he was pulled over twice and decided they were too obnoxious for extended periods of riding. They were pipes off A CL parts bike, the muffler was Swiss cheesed with rust holes so we simply cut it off. We had those on before I had my own motorcycle, it took me A while to get mine because I had more love for cars, which is not the case anymore. He would cruise his bike and Id drive my 944, now its much better having A lot of buddies with vintage bikes.

Here are our others.

More progress to come with both our green CB's, were just about to rebuild Matt's clutch with A Barnett, then were on to building another engine with some fine goodies. I'm hoping we will have A dyno tune video up sometime before spring.

Re: Twin CB350's Build.

Some more work done on my friend Matt's bike. Its coming along, down to the frame. Was dyno tested at only 25hp before the build. Were shooting for 40-45 at the end. Were trying to have it ready for the Ypsi meet this month.

Heres what changed and planning on being changed.
Cleaned everything, seated valves
Intake port match 37mm
Second Over Bore W/ light Pistons
69 cam
VM32's with Dyno jet kit for when the engine is running
Hardened rods
Barnett Clutch
Cam chain / Tensioner
Detabbed frame, lightened, awaiting bracing.
Awaiting Lightened crank

Hes got a case with a short fifth gear, removed electric start, suzuki rods, gutted kick start. That engine is for the next build, but damn its nice. Bumpin your bike to ride it on the road is nothing you'd want though hah.

Matt's on the left, Mine on the right.

Are those original seats on the 350's that you guys just trimmed and reupholstered?

I was going to ask about those, they look like the ones from eBay? I keep coming back to them if they fit and comfortable, it's not a bad deal?
