Flush Mount Fuel Cap
« on: Sep 03, 2007, 20:12:11 »
I installed a flush mount cap in my tank this weekend . I used a junkyard CBR 600 tank for the parts I needed.
I still have to weld it up.

I've been thinking about that too. How are you going to deal with the keylock? I didn't want to have to have a seperate key just for the gas cap. Is the bike going to have the original main switch?

I'm not going to use the original ignition switch , just a kill switch.

I used the fitting from the CBR tank but I'm using an aftermarket fuel cap and base so I don't need any keys.

My welding skills were not up to welding the sheetmetal on the tank so I covered the welds with bondo.

Thats an awesome detail, I like it a lot.  I'll have to keep that in mind once I finally figure out what tank I'm going to run.

Sorry to revive a mega old thread. Anyone know how/where to get the lower section for a cap like this?

Happy to weld in a new section but cannot think how to mount the cap other than cutting the lower section out of an old tank.
Look at my piece of crap ;)

You've got it. Grab the whole old tank, hack out what you need and weld it into the new tank.

Dammit! Not a cheap mod then. Salvage tank is $150 on eBay. Anyone got an R6/R1/GSXR tank that's ruined they would want to cut up for a price?
