Alrighty then,

I know I promised an update ages ago, but as usual, thing's didn't quite go as planned. I bought the rear wheel on Jan. 21st but didn't get 'till yesterday. In the meantime I've been working with the front wheel. I'll break it down for those interested:

Rear wheel:
BMW GS 1150 4x17" , whole , off of www.ebay.de

Front Wheel:
RIM - BMW GS?R? 2.5x17" , already polished,www.ebay.de
HUB - Moto-Guzzi , model unknown, www.rebootguzzispares.com
SPOKES - Stainless steel, I bought the guzzi hub and beemer rim not knowing if they were compatible, which they weren't. The spoke  pattern lined up with the rim but the entry angle was about 5 deg. off. So the good guys at www.symotic.com bent the spokes on the rim end and the wheel actually came out quite nice. I'm still not quite happy with the shine level so I'll take them apart this weekend, polish the spokes, hub and rim and put them back together. I also need to build a nipple wrench.  :-X With all the work involved lacing the rim they even came at a reasonable price. (150)

The mufflers need to come in a bit more, find suitable rear light and umm..probably a shitload of other things I just can't remember right now. Oh yeah, I'm not sticking with the tires that are on at the moment. Probably going for Pirelli Sport Demons.

Need to draw up some bearing/ rear brake disc adaptors, OR just place the right side bearing in the hub, grind out the inner tube-thingy and those 4 holes where the bolts come out (once again a reminder to all you readers, english is neither my first or second language. ;D) I'm just not sure if 5mm is suffice material thickness, need to do some calculations....

If someone want's this, I'm be willing to send it for the shipping costs. (It's the rear wheel center cap, dia. 1")

This is what I'll be spending most of this weekend with. Need to draw up (SolidWorks) an adaptor for the rear sprocket and wheel bearings...or something. I have plenty of ideas, just need to talk to someone who knows if they're executable...

And Finally,

The Status Quo. Still a long way to go, but plenty behind me. I guess I'm about 2-3 weeks behind schedule.

I just put everything together for the pic so the headlight is going to come down lower, the rear might come up and inch or two. Front brake discs are coming(2 X 320mm 8) ) as soon as I find new 6-pot calibers, I have the front fender coming in next weekend, A friend is making an aluminium hugger for the rear etc etc.....

hey thanatos how much do you pay for one of those seat?

Dammit! I got excited because I though we got an update  :-[

You should probably email him your question. It's faster.

firts off, im new here. whats the scoop on the front end? what is it from? I have a GSXR1000 front end I want to mount on my XS, but I dont know how hard it would be. what was the process?
I originally bought it for a CB450 project which would have been a simple stem swap. My 450 took another direction and now I have a really nice front end laying around. I also have a vfr single sided swing-arm Ive been tempted to use on the XS.
thanks

those parts are no good at all............wanna sell em?!?!?! ::)

ive bee wanting to do that swingarm setup for a while too.i have one in the states with a 20" 150 spoke car knock off style wheel mounted to it with a low profile tire (looks sick) the only problem is the major offset would require a jack shaft for sure.

So...where to begin.

My excuse for not updating in over a year would probably be lack of garage, buying a house and remodeling it and having a kid. I have made some slow progress on the bike. I'll post pics later on when I'm home but here is a list of the mods I've done.

FRAME
rear sub-frame made from scratch and raised 2"
converted to monoshock
powdercoated

FORKS
GSXR 750 SRAD upside down front end
new seals etc.
tapered roller bearings

SWINGARM
Suzuki GS 500 swingarm
Custom bronze bushings

FRONT WHEEL
BMW GS tubeless spoked rim fitted to a moto guzzi  something? hub, took me 2 sets of spokes and 3 different nipples to get it right,
2x 320mm EBC brake discs

REAR WHEEL
BMW GS Tubeless spoked rim, custom adapter to convert it from shaft drive to chain drive, still in the works
stock bmw 280mm? disc
grimeca single pot caliper

ENGINE
compete overhaul top to bottom
Head ported and polished
new valves
new valve guides
new valve seats?
1st over pistons
all new bearings
crank balanced
new shift shaft
all new seals and gaskets
NEW ENGINE CASES :-X (the old ones were cracked)
and a shitload of other stuff I don't care to remember

I'm not much of a talker (or writer) so I'll just post pics and continue from there. I am hoping to get this on the road for this season, but the chances of that happening are....about the same as Tim finishing his XS.
