That's what I keep hearing. I kind of challenged the guy a bit too, after he quoted. I said in a basic color the material isn't expensive and you don't have to have years of experience to get a good finish. All the work is in the prep time with powder (Joe, I'm not saying you don't need skill to powder just saying its not as intensive and finicky as paint at least not in the same way, again I'm talking about a frame in matte black, not a fancy fade or weird color) So why am I doing all the prep and still paying you $300? I do understand that even with my prep he's going to have to do some baking etc. to get all the oil residues and whatnot out but for chrissake That's just time in the oven.
I'm thinking about setting up for small powder jobs. just big enough to do something as large as a frame. I read a great thread about building your own oven etc. and with the space and guys we have in the shop now between the 5 of us we should be able to make it work.
