Honda replica seats UK

Just came across these seat bases here in the UK.

Excellent value for money at $75 + carriage. It's a new guy in the GRP trade and he seems to have very reasonable prices. I've asked him if he wants to reproduce my 5 gallon tank and other seats I have.

I've ordered one anyway in anticipation of winning the CB550 over on E-Bay - I'm planning on a 350 Factory four race rep [ yes I know, with a 550 lump! ] - Imissed out on one last week, but fingers crossed this time around.

He's a bit of a one man band, but guarantees to get the orders turned round in 3 days.

You may know I was in the GRP business [ replica sports cars ] and my pal still is. However, when I showed him the seat and the price, he said he couldn't make it for that !! And he buys a huge amount of material at a time.

I might order a few more before the guy sobers up and pushes his prices up !

hell ya! for $75 you can not even buy the supplies to make your own!

Hey JRK,

just spoke to the guy on the phone. He's going to take a look at reproducing all my seat bases - AJS 7R, Benelli, Duke 750SS and he's talking about similar prices for all the seats. He will go halves with me on the mould cost - so looks like this could be a sweet deal.
My point - would there be a market in the US if I shipped say 5 or 10 out at a time to keep the carriage costs down per unit?

If I take 10 units at a time the price comes down to $65. How does that compare with US domestic pricing?

100% man that would be awesome! i know my shop would move them no problem!!! plus i could sell them online as well (and ebay) in the US, be your us distributer :)

I agree with Joe. Get moving on those seats, I believe that they would sell like hot cakes here. Providing that the quality is as good as it looks in the pics. I may have to snap up a few myself.

As far as pricing goes, at $65/seat that's pretty awesome. From everything I've seen, Roc City Cafe's got the market on awesome value vs awesome(r? est?) quality. But.... I'd love to get a hold of a 7r seat for less than what Airtech wants.

Just throwing in my chump change.

Something like this one Arc ...................

Seriously folks .......... JRK / ARC please pm me to discuss possibilities.

OK - I'm retired as most of you know - yea should be down the golf course or at the lake fishing.

Bollox to all that - there's still bikes to build and roads to ride.

Also as most of you know, I've been in business all my life, and can see an opportunity when it arises. Difference is now, this is pocket money stuff for me, but no reason why I can't put back some of the 50 odd years of experience I've gained in the real World - WITHOUT ripping folk off.

Now then, 10 years ago I could see the growth in the interest in Cafe Racers here in Europe / UK and started to put together a website for Cafe Racer parts based on all my business contacts I'd gathered over the years. One of my pals imports Tarrozi stuff in a big way and has access to all sorts of off beat fairings, seats and tanks. A lot of Italian factory stuff. I've also come across guys in the UK with "period" parts and GRP.

Did you know I've developed a special shocker for the BMW Kay series? AND I'm working on a special alloy bodied set up [ fully adjustable, USD, Gold anodised ] version for "our" Cafe Racers.

As some of you know, I've been looking for a Suzie Gt750 front brake - minimum price IF you can find one seems to be $500- $600 just for the hub and brake.. Well yesterday I tracked down a guy that makes a period brake from a Triumph conical hub for $650 - that's totally remanufactured with all specialised parts supplied.

Back in the day I ran a successful Cafe Racer parts business called "Cafe-Moto" - might be time for a rebirth.

Wow, Beach... For a retiree, you certainly like to keep busy! With the prices of these seats being what you've stated, you will definitely be giving your customer's their money's worth! Like I said earlier, there's only a few notable companies here in the US that sell good product. Airtech's been around for a while, but their products are pretty high-dollar. Carpy's got his end of the business as well. And Shaun (I hope I spelled his name right) of Roc City Cafe is doing an AWESOME job. I will send you a PM soon with a few ideas that you may or not not enjoy. Keep up the good work, your dedication is inspiring!

how about some of these?

I had to pay a pretty penny for one from http://www.rw-shop.de/rw/de/index.php?seite=first but found that I had to do some HEAVY mods to make it work for my frame (2" widening, trimming and etc...)

How about a head light fairing JUST like that one that wont cost $300+?

Damn.... That's sexy. Almost enough to make me give up on modern machines.... ;D I'd love to throw a fairing like that on my CB650.

I'll check out the more modern stuff, but usually these are manufactured by relations to Dick Turpin !! [ Jesse James ? ]

Yes, I guess I'm not your average retiree - too much still to do.

Boys, I'll make some serious inroads into this plot as I feel almost obliged to put something back into the hobby that has given me so much over the years.

2 years ago I developed a real high end shocker [ from our Cobra Race Car shock ] for the BMW Kay series that I was playing with. That shocker has gone on to be sold commercially by my pal at Realm Engineering
[ www.realmengineering.com], without whose help I couldn't have developed the shocker.

Now then - relevance? I NOW need shox for all my period Cafe Racer projects. So back to Realm and I got him to build some prototypes based on the same shocker. USD mount, Heim type self aligning bearings for the mounts, fully adjustable dampening and Gold Anodised for that purdy look.

Can't show you pix yet until a bit more development has taken place - but here's the unit I developed for the BMW's which forms the basis for the "Classic Gold" series [ gotta have a name - right ? ] Price for this unit is £225 [ $260 ?] and compares with the best of the rest. [ Ohlins apart - they're special, but then we never tested them agains an Ohlins! ].

The twin shox series will also be "sympathetically" priced. Jeeez, I'm enjoying retirement. 8)

Already in the works Rat.

I don't develop anything I can't use myself! More accurately, I develop things I NEED myself!

To be honest that's one of the reasons for going the USD route as Realm already have a clevis fitting for one of their car applications and it is fitted on the stem open end.

Two updates .....

first off I'm having a major planning meeting with my pal at Realm in 2 week's time to put some order into all the side projects that I instigated in the past 18 months. That includes the Classic Shox that I am developing specifically for "Our" era Cafe Racers - that's Brit Bikes, and Japanese twinshock.

There's several other parts we're working on - more as we go.

Secondly the Honda Replica seat base that started all this off has been ordered and should be here in the next week - snow allowing.

Good news all round. The snow has finally cleared and allowed UK PLC to get back to work. ::)

That in turn means I should have the first sample of the Honda Race Rep seat sent out to me by the weekend - and second - I collect my new CB550 project in 10 days time. ;D ;D

My meeting with Realm is scheduled for the 15th., when the new sample of the Gold anodised shock body should be available to sign off [ or not as the case may be ].

Joe,

I'll flag it up in the Cafe Racer thread, but essentially my plan is for a "350" factory replica.

I've decided that the "true to my past" effort will be thrown at the XS500 with the TT600 lump [ coming next Wednesday ], but I can't really justify the expense of a second drum front brake for the 550 - so I'll bend my own rules and go for a single disc.

I just came across another guy who supplies Classic and Vintage racers [ as the seat guy ] that makes replica 350 / 500 Four race fairings - a la Mike the Bike ! AND they're not stupid money - that is, I can afford one !

I might run the 550 as a full race rep without lights - we can do that legally in the UK if we specify a "daylight only" annual test [ MOT ]. There's another guy making factory race rep gas tanks - again not stupid money.

I can't wait to get started - should have all the main ingredients by 1st Feb.

something like this ....................

Collected my CB550 today - all the way to Wales [ 4 hours each way drive!]. I was like a kid with a new toy all the way home - scheming and fine tuning the ideas in my head.

So the seat will be with me next week - I'll get it fitted up and take some pix.

BTW - check the other threads for progress on the shox - looking good.
