Retrobetsy CB450 Wiring
« on: Jul 28, 2011, 02:09:44 »
Ok, so I pulled off all the body work, seat, tank, brackets, etc. All that really needs no detailed explanation. We are down to the wiring harness folks, I definitely want to slow down and take some time here. Why, you ask? Because this is usually where the most tampering happens. Most bikes go through many hands in 35+ years, and you can almost bet the wiring was been messed with. People cut, splice, yank, and route wires to the high heavens, and will leave quite a mess for you to sort out, and Betsy is no exception.

[/color]Well lucky me, everything is operational! Time to grab some pen and paper and draw some pretty pictures. I have found manufacturers do a pretty good job of making different wire colors and tracers, but there are still various circuits that use the same colors so be aware of their connections. Service manuals have diagrams but they are extremely small, and look like graph paper. But I can tell you what is not in a service manual, and that is the routing of the wires. This is extremely important as if they are not routed properly they will get yanked, pinched, burnt, etc.
