 Here we go....
I bought this bike off a friend in Boulder CO for $600. Came with 2 tanks (red one has minor rust), new battery and a fresh set of Dunlop 4.00X18 K70's. It starts just fine but upon further inspection I noticed a hole in the clutch cover next to the kicker. As I tooled around more I found that the arm doesnt return very well and when it stops, the kicker lurches forward a half turn, thus putting the bolt through the cover. Im guessing that A: The ratchet and stopper and stripped and/or B: The ratchet spring is unhooked or dead. There is a whine in the kickstart shaft leading me to believe it doesnt disengage properly.

Let me know if you have any info. Looks like I have to open up the case and take a looksy.

I hope to continue adding pics of my build because I love watching other people's agony/joy as well.

So, apart she came. Broke one bolt that wouldn't move by any means necessary. No big deal. Got all the way through and luckily my presumption was correct. The protruding tab on the ratchet was broken off. Amazing how that little bastard can cause so much mayhem. Thoughts as to why this happens (I found many other threads that mention it) still elude me. One thought was incorrect timing. Who knows. Anyway, I found all the kickstart parts on the Bay, plus another clutch cover. Definitely praying I put it all back together correctly.

This all helped me remember that I need the Clymer.

Ive got tanks (yes 2) to paint, tabs to shave, seat to weld, clips to make, light to mount.......I love this game.
