Re-birth of MadMax.. ---- 79 Yamaha XS1100
« on: Feb 04, 2012, 04:24:52 »
Not sure if I'm in the right thread, but thought I share what I have done with my XS1100.
It all started out as more of a MUD! and I think it still a mud! I've been slowly cleaning it up to bring more street fighter look. but since this winter I had to take it in to replace the Clutch and Gears, and now it's turning into a whole another project!! and it's looking more close back to Cafe Racer style.. with that minimalistic feel to it.
Here's the bike when I pick it up the first day.. It was a great find! Someone in OKC had build it, and it looks like he had put a lot of work into it. but it has more of a chopper feel to it..

when I got it, it was running 99 hayabusa front end, and not sure what year of the rear end, but it's off 955 triple speed single swing arm.

I slowly got rid of that chopper look, and making it more of a street fighter..

the most valuable part on the bike that make Chain drive possible on the XS1100. It's Shaft driven originally. NOt sure if I could ever replace it if it ever goes out !! :o

Gonna powder coat the bottom of the fork to that Bronze next week, it has more of a mocha look to it..
after everything set up on a chassis, just realize that it need just a little hint of that bronze somewhere in the front..
also setting up a push start button on the top, and gonna set up a hidden key somewhere else. along with a kill switch.. still trying to figure out more..

also adding this Tank to it as soon I get it, and also a custom rear fender and seat are on the way too..
debating whether to keep it more brushed aluminum look or paint it black?
I was inspired by this bike..
also adding the new headlight as well.. with 35w HID conversion too..

Thanks Tim, impatiently waiting for more parts to come in and more powder coating. I'm hoping to have it all complete by end of feb, so it will be ready for the Rocker vs Mods in Dallas. I wish I could make it to the Austin one, but not sure if I'll have it done in time.
Also getting a RFID alarm set up too. And a vapor digital speedo to go with it. Can't wait to get back on and ride again soon!!!

I'd love to see some more in-depth photos of that chain drive conversion...

That bike was built over on XS11.com a few years back (most likely from the guy you bought it from). He made the chain drive conversion himself by reworking a stock middle drive--a good machinist would be able to copy that. If I remember right, he also made a lot of the body work from scratch. Kinda cool to see it alive again, and getting a new lease on life!
