81' XS650 Rephased Cafe
« on: Feb 08, 2012, 18:01:34 »

Ok fellas, I've been working on this for a couple months now. Its about 75% there, as of right now.

81 XS650 Special, 277 Rephase, Pamco ignition, XS Performance coils, completely rewired, starter delete, Mikuni VM34 carbs, Ascot 2-2 exhaust, bronze swing arm bushings, XS850 Special tank, clipons that are useless with that tank, some other odds and ends.

It still needs: tires, rear sets, fork brace, new clipons, and a pma kit.

Wow! I love the unusual colors, that frame really pops! and the paint job on the tank is really slick.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

that is a fantastic bike.  the overall lines are phenomenal.  exhaust is fantastic looking.  when you start it up can we get a vid to hear that beast?

Thanks guys. I was thinking about getting these offset clipons, no bracket to worry about clipping the tank, and should give the bars a little more clearance.

Another thing I need to figure out are the petcocks. The xs850 petcocks that came on that tank have no off position, they have diaphragms that work on a vacuum, so when the motor shut off, they shut off. Im not sure if there's a way to rig these to work, or i should put the 650 petcock on the tank and get a second one for the right side.

Started working on the gauge / switch mount.  Kill switch and headlight hi/lo and off.

You can run those petcocks in prime.  Bypasses the diaphragm.  650 petcocks might be a different bolt spacing..
Do what you want to do.  Don't let fear or common sense stop you.

Nice proportions. Cool colours. Great looking bike with some cool ideas. Where did you get your rear fibreglass?

Nice work, liking the look of this a lot.

I tried a pair of 650 fuel taps in one of my 750 tanks the other day and they went in just fine. My 650 tank had vacum taps fitted to it though.

The seat is the "medium" seat from cafeseat.com. Here's the link:
http://cafeseat.com/MediumCafeSeat.html

It took a few weeks to get, and when i did finally get it, it was in kinda rough shape, needed a bunch of sanding and some filler to get smooth. Other than that i just shortened it, and cut the rear at an angle.

Thanks for the link - I like the crease. Good luck with the rest of your build. Looks pretty close now...
