There is a short rubber hose that connects each carb together. What is this part?

At first I thought you were talking about the "fuel rail" type piece that goes between them. (its between the number 1's which are o-rings on the drawing on bike bandit.)

Now i'm thinking it's just a breather tube and on mine there wasn't ANYTHING there...but mine was a 76'  Do they go to dead ends?  I don't think those are necessary, hopefully someone else can chime in if they ARE indeed needed.

im pretty sure it is the fuel rail between the 1s on the diagram. are they vacuum breather tubes or fuel lines?

If we're talking about what I think your talking about, it's just a bit of fuel line.  Should be 5.5mm, but that's impossible to find these days so just use 3/16" (5mm)

It is smaller than 5.5mm. I think its about 1/8"

Perfect. Then that IS just a breather.  You'll note there is one on the other side as well.  So that piece really isn't needed at all. They can be "open" to the air if you want, or the last person had "tubes" running them down and away from the bike as they originally must have been.  Carry on sir!

Edit:  The other one might be blocked too depending upon where it was in the set of 4.

Should I worry about replacing the rubber things on the link arms? If you can't tell I am pretty new to all this haha.

Got another pic? Not sure exactly what you are referring to.  And don't worry about being new to it, we all were once, it all depends on where you came from, who you grew up with, and who taught you (if anybody other than the internet!)

I'm not 100% positive, but I don't think those are available new anymore.

A great site though is http://www.cmsnl.com/ the prices are in Euros (so double US prices), and shipping is expensive, but on many parts their the only place that have them!
