New guy from WA

Hello everyone, just thought I introduce myself before I started asking questions. Last fall I purchased a 1975 CB360t with only 7.5k miles on it. Ran a little rough, but I figured it was worth the investment. THis will be my first motorcycle, figured it will be fun and a great way to save money with all these gas prices. Here is what it looked like when I purchased it.

It sooned ended up looking like this so I would not feel like a goofball riding it.

That lasted for a few weeks, but it was running rough and getting cold, winter was approaching. I knew the tank needed some work so I did the por15 tank sealing kit on the inside during the winter. Cleaned that shit all out, no more floating rust particles (later to be found as main reason it ran pretty crappy). This spring, I started to get the bike up and running. I ended up flat blacking the tank, rear fender, and air filter covers. Everything else was removed. Bought a new taillight and removed the rear turn signals (fronts were removed when the fairing was pulled last fall) and front fender. Installed new exhaust (old ones rusted out). Welded up a new bracket to hold the ignition and wired up a new button for the starter. Slid the fork tubes up an inch or so to drop the front down a little, tossed some new grips on. Changed the oil and bam, I have a perfect running bike. Here is what it currently looks like.

So there u have it. Still needs new tires and I need to address the unresponsive tach..

Looks fantastic!  Nice job.  You might consider finding a crappy old fender and salvaging the brace out of it.  The part the fender itself is riveted to and that mounts to the forks.  It actually does a lot of good having your fork tubes braced at the top.  Keeps them moving up and down together better.  The way it is now, you're relying on your axle to keep things aligned.  It can pretty easily get tweaked in corners.

The POR15 kit is the best.  Spread the word on that - keep away from KREEM.  I'd also suggest inline fuel filters.  Cheap insurance against a small particle getting into your carb jets.

Are you going to run without turn signals all the time?

Again - looks great and welcome to the forum.  How did you hear about it?

Welcome freakycody. Great job on the bike, that's quite a transformation! Love the colour you chose, really suits the bike. Really like the short pipes too. What's the other bike in the background?

Not running any signals, figure my left hand will work well. Dont have plans to ride at night often. As for that front brace, I did not think about it as keeping the forks lined up. I will have to fab up sometihng, maybe make a little fender for it too. Thanks for the tip.

HerrDeacon, I live in Kennewick, WA. Alot of western WA people dont even know of the Tri-Cities. Yeah that other motorcycle you see is not really a motorcycle at all, but a moped. It is a 1979 vespa grande. It has the 80cc big bore kit in it and an aftermarket perfomance exhaust. You can easily cruise at 25 and hit 30 if you crouch down and get more aerodynamic. My dad has hopes of driving it back and forth from work and taking the back roads this summer. Not sure how that will fair but we shall see.

Bike looks great, man.  I like the way the Honda emblem pops off that flat black tank.

I see you're only running one mirror, which from what I recall is 'technically' illegal in WA.  I also read that those sparto taillights are 'not highway approved'.  You ever been pulled over?

yeah the bike was kept in garage basically all its life i guess. only problem that it has was rust inside gas tank (owner left gas in it for years I guess), but seat is perfect, the plastic trim around the bottom of seat could be better but leather is  perfect. Only had 7500 miles on it when I bought it.

I was originally planning on not using the emblems, but once I saw how they "pop" as u guys put it, I had to put them on.

Cahurst2001, I did not know about rearview mirrors and having 2... I may have to dig out the other one and toss it on there. I thought I read somewhere if the bike is older than 25 years than it is ok to have 1 or none, but maybe only if it came from factory like that, not sure. As for the sparto taillight, hopefully I dont get pulled over.. not planning any highway trips, just back and forth from work. So lets hope it is ok haha (once someone catches me, I may have to change it, I dont wanna be pestered, but I love the look of the taillight). Since you seem to know these WA laws (i dont ) is there any law about not having a front fender here in WA? When I was asking a dealer about tires and it came up I did not have a front fender he said be careful with that around cops, should have questioned him about it, but I was too busy trying to figure out what tires I wanted. Also any WA laws about turnsignals?

I am in Seattle........ and I know where the Tri Cities are. I can see the green glow in the sky from the Hanford Nuclear site from West Seattle!! 

Here is my knowledge of some laws straight from one of Washington's finest State Patrol officers. I was pulled over on my CB750 a few months back for having my license plate mounted vertically. That is a no no, two mirrors is correct in Washington. He also told me my aftermarket bullet style blinkers were to small and that they need to be 18" apart per Washington RCW 87687 Blah Blah Blah. Plus..... the little stock reflectors on the forks needed to be put back on. I have to say it varies from cop to cop. I fixed the license plate but that was it. Left the blinkers alone. I ride with tons of guys who don't even have blinkers, and have open exhaust that you can hear from 2 miles away...... so I don't know. Just watch out for Johnny Law when he is having a bad day I guess.

ok thanks for the info. I saw your bike in a thread above mine, looks very nice. What are the rear turnsignals u got now, the black ones (may have to pick up a set for the front and back, would look ok on my bike (the stock ones were just hidieous and large)? Also any chance of a rear shot of the bike? So yeah, looks like I am putting the other mirror on for sure now, just gotta find it...

These came from JC Whitney if I remember. They are very common at all online bike stores. I am sure Bike Bandit has them. They came chrome. When I put the seat on I sanded and painted them black. The front ones are still chrome. I think they are even the signals that match your tail light. I had the same tail light when I bought the bike. If you search the before and after thread there is a pic of mine when I first got it with that taillight assembly.

I ran 90/90 front and 100/90s in the rear on the 360. Were I doing it again, I'd go one step wider for both the front and the rear. Doing so will really stretch the limits of the stock rim. If you try the 120s on the rear stock rim, do post pictures!

im glad you posted pics w/ your tire sizes, ive been trying to figure out which size tires would look best on my 200. i was thinking bigger but i think the ones you have on your 360 would look just fine on a smaller bike such as a 200. maybe a 110 on the rear? idk yet, the 100 already looks like its pouring over the rim a bit (in a good way). i was going to go with the same tires too, ive heard many good things about the Avon Road Riders.

ChrisF thanks for the pics. looks like I will go 100 front and 110 rear, though the sizes u got gong on your 360 do look nice. BTW, your 350 is what made me pick up my 360. 

Just to confirm since u got both, the 350 and 360 share the same rear wheel? Any way thanks again for the info.

I have no idea if they share the same wheel; I've never really thought about it.

I do know that, in my opinion, the tires on the 350 look better. They are actually taller and wider than the 360.

cody, great lookin bike. they do look similar lol I was even thinking of getting the same taillight but purchased another already.
