YogiBear - it will be even smoother when I add some filler to tidy up the factory gussets before painting!

While waiting for to get frame, crankcase, and barrels back from the engineer making the chambers (he does beautiful work but slowly) I started on polishing some of the billet pieces.
The aim is for a satin finish just short of a mirror gloss.

Before:

and:

It will probably a while before the finished result!

Fox - many apologies for the lack rust; I will try to do better next time!

The alloy parts from the donor bike aren't in great shape, maybe you will find those satisfactory.

Look forward to seeing them, as usual. By the way, where did you get that steering damper? Looks phenomenal. Is it FZR specific?

The steering damper is from Scott's:

The one depicted is a new model made specifically for the '83 RZ Yamaha.

They're a magic piece of gear!

Started the alloy polishing last night; tedious, but strangely satisfying!

I don't have a buffer at this stage so I am going try hand-finishing only.  The plan is to use W&D in 240, 320, 400, 600 grit and, depending on how things are looking, finish with steel wool or go on to 800 and 1000 grit.

If anyone is interested I will post photos of progress at different stages.
