question about carbs, filters, etc for cb200 build
« on: Nov 27, 2011, 10:48:11 »
So I have a stock CB200T with stock carbs that I am converting into a cafe bike. I am using stock CL200 pipes and muffler, but I am getting rid of stock air filters.

My goal is to not have to re-jet the bike if possible, mostly because I don't want to deal with re-jetting and trying to track down jets. Anyways, I am going to replace the stock airboxes with two individual POD filters. Just wondering if this is going to be possible (without re-jetting) and if so, what type of POD filters should I get based on the pictures I post below.

There are some K&N filters and UNI filters, which are pretty big. I also found some Briggs Animal Racing Kart filters which will fit. Finally, the last picture shows some pretty small, angled carbs I found on ebay. Justing wondering which type of carb will allow me to run near stock settings (ie, smaller or larger POD filters). Was thinking maybe the smaller POD filters will limit air intake and might therefore more closely replicate the stock airbox.

K&N 20 degree angled: comes in 4" and 5" long version

UNI angled filter:

Briggs animal air filter: This one comes in both a 4" and 5" long version

Finally, the small little filter as seen on ebay. Here is a link:

Shame on you Sbaugz- you know just mounting pods will likely require new jetting. Why go through the trouble of improving the rest of the bike but give up on a couple jets? Not trying to sound demeaning, just don't want you to be discouraged when it comes to jetting.

That being said, the small/cheap filters generally don't filter air properly or even flow properly. The K&N's are stiff and may not fit against the frame. Uni filters have a big spring inside and allow some flexibility for mounting.
I'm on hiatus - pm's are linked to email. So message me if you need something.

shame on me I guess.
I already have other performance bikes, so not really interested in that with this build. Looking for an easy tuning, easy starting and running bike. If performance was my goal, I would have hacked apart the stock cl200 pipes too.

Also, all those PODs shown have a 20 degree mounting angle to them, so they probably should fit without difficulty.

You can always tape up a portion of the filter, maybe on the inside to hide it.

Hey sbaugz, did you ever find a solution for this?  I'm in the same boat as you and am interested to see what other people got working.

...easy tuning, easy starting and running bike...

Then leave the stock airbox on.

Look, if you don't want to rejet, then that's your option.  Brilliant insight indeed.
