Author Topic: 2 extremely Lean 2 extremely Rich?? Carb Sync issue? What else should I check  (Read 370 times)

Hey guys.. well tonight I removed my exhaust because I had planned on wrapping them (held off on that for now) but when I removed the exhaust (stock 4-2) I noticed that the 2 pipes and valves on the right side were extremely black and sooty while the 2 on the left include the valves were extremely beige/white with not a drop of soot ..

Is this hopefully just a carb sync option? What else could be the cause? Exhaust leak? Also, on the right side that was extremely rich I had a big dent/smash in the shorty muffler .. the clamp actually broke and it was ran over by another car haha..but ya.. that was probably my fault.. but it that has been replaced now.. Could that restriction in airflow, although just temporary.. cause that side to be so rich? the rich side exhaust is also a little more "poppy" than the other as well

I plan on synching carbs on Sunday.. but wanted to see if there is anything else I should be looking for... just worried me a little to see how extremely different the 2 sides were... There has seemed to be a slight difference in low end power but other than that I have not had any bike issues

Thanks in advance.. and Happy Friday  :)

  • We go where eagles dare...
Synch the carbs, and go from there. Put new plugs in and do a plug chop. See what effect that has. Also, make sure your fuel lines are all clear of debris and in good shape.

  • Some things are worth fighting for. Most are not.
A Google search would provide a lot more info than we could type out here.......
I'm on hiatus - pm's are linked to email. So message me if you need something.

ya.. i googled and googled.. results were all over the map.. looks like there is actually oil seeping in from a leaky valve gasket.. so its getting oil in the 2 right valves.. time to replace gaskets and do a valve job  :-\
