Hey Y'all! CL350 from down south
« on: Aug 24, 2012, 00:45:10 »
Hey guys.

After a lot of work this week trying to get my baby running right, I've decided to just tear it down and go all out! That's what y'all like right?

After I realized I needed a new petcock something snapped in me and thought, let's pull the forks off and just see what's up.

The facts:

'72 CL 350
Purchased in Nov 2009
Been sitting in my various yards since

The Good:
Previous owner was a pretty good wrench head
Timing is on
Points and coils are good (for now)
New rubber
New battery
Re-did rectifier
I'm the title holder
It looks AWESOME

The Bad:
Pitted forks
Bad petcock
Cracked float bowl overflow tube
Left side carb won't idle (see bad petcock)
Left side pipe has no baffling in it.
Right side of top crown is busted
Wiring is crusty

Plan of action:
New petcock, so there isn't gas everywhere...
New top crown
New mini speedo
Shine forks
Mufflers
Polish covers
Maybe mess with a new harness??? (will need help with that)
Make some money to pay for all this

Here she is as of this afternoon:

And the forks:

Is there anyway to salvage these guys?

So follow along as I get this Carolina Wren up to speed!

It depends on what they look like under the gators.  If the surface that the fork seal slides on is OK, then they are fine.  Mine were very pitted underneath the old headlight ears.  I just cleaned the rust off and then painted them.  The bottoms are aluminum and should clean up easily.

Forks are cleaning up nicely. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Anybody want the old chrome ears? The left side one is a bit tore up. PM me and I'll send you some pictures.

In other news, has anyone ever used this petcock on a 350?

Or these that float around ebay

Should I just bite the bullet and shell out the cash for a Honda one?
