Early 90's Ninja 500. Pick it up for a grand, strip it to bare bones, and rebuild it for a grand. Best of both worlds.

I would go to your local Craigslist, type in $2000 in the "max" box and hit search. It's going to give you a better idea of what you're going to get.

A good deal on a very early FZ1 or SV650?

If you're talking more vintage, then you're gonna have to play find what you can.  Me, I'd go for a Royal Enfield for the cash.  :)

thanks fella's .....I actually have had my eye on an old airhead Bimmer with the briefcases this dude has one with 14,000 hasn't run in years he said he would trade the Vespa for it but has no idea where the title is ....so i'm waiting til thats like $600....otherwise I would spring for the first sport bike I can get my hands on after ripping that vespa for 6,000 miles ......I have acquired a large thirst for more power....However I may just grab some old beater pick-up truck (Brand New bike getter) an that DT motor brad has....at the same time hopefully piece together this dismembered fish in my basement....

Get the BMW and call it a day.  Ride it around the world and write a book.

Nothing wrong with any other bike - I've got lots of love for my Japanese collection, but there's nothing quite like the BMW airhead, even with all its quirks.
