Master Cylinder leak/ modern master cylinder? (CB250G5)

(1/2) > >>

Justinas:
Hey there,
having some troubles with bleeding front brakes on my Honda CB 250 G5.
After hours of bleeding with traditional method, bought a vacuum system. The result is the same - fluid is slowly getting out from reservoir, but from the nipple, it keeps getting out mixed with air. After about 400ml of brake fluid air is still coming.
I noticed that brake lever is wet from brake fluid. So I guess my master cylinder is leaking. Rebuilt it with new kit, but it still is wet and squeeky. Is this may be the place where all that air keeps getting in?

Although I cleaned it very thoroughly several times, it keeps on leaking. Can anybody tell, if I could use a master cylinder from some other never bike (example) with my original caliper?  In the end it may be cheaper and more reliable.

Thank you for any advice!

HerrDeacon:
Yes, if the brake fluid is leaking out from somewhere then air will continue to get in and you'll never be able to bleed them. Even if you could the fluid would just leak out and you wouldn't have brakes.

You can buy a new one like the one you posted, you just need to be sure you match up the bore size for your bike. I'm assuming your 250 is a single disk setup? If so, you should look for one that's around 13-14mm. If its a dual setup look for something larger, in the 18-20mm range. The one you listed doesn't state the size.

Great. Thank you very much!

Can't really tell from the pics, but probably a good idea to get a new brake hose if you haven't already. 30 year old hoses tend to swell quite easily which makes the brakes spongy too.

Justinas:
So brake hoses really need changing. Thank you for making me aware of that.

I was just wondering, must I use a metal hose to connect with caliper, or can I go with a single flexible one from master cylinder to the caliper? (using hose like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110913292943?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_1351wt_1037).

I will be using a new master cylinder with brake light switch on itself so maybe I do not need line splitter manifold? It seems it is there only for brake light switch.
