Homemade tools? Post pics and uses
« on: Aug 01, 2012, 01:22:52 »
I know we all have tools that we have fabbed up to do a specific task.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

It would be nice to share these strange tools we made and use to spur on others to create or complete a task!

Example:

Sheet metal manipulation.

I have a few I have made.

Here is a bearing separator specifically tailored to pull the bottom steering stem bearing:

Here is an attachment for my stationary belt sander for resurfacing brake rotors:

Here is a seal puller that I made:

Here is a manometer for balancing carbs:

One that I don't have pictures of is what I call a mushroom punch. It's a piece of 3/8" steel rod about 14" long. I heated one end and forged a concave mushroom. Then I flame hardened it with a carbonizing flame. I use it for removing wheel bearings. The sharp lip is good at catching on the little chamfer of the bearing races to knock them out.

Here is the steering stem nut socket I made to fit my katana. It's made from all scrap I had laying around.
