81 tank on 82 gpz550 frame???
« on: Aug 15, 2014, 17:13:09 »
so i have an 82 gpz550 and was wondering if an 81 tank will work on my frame... concern being tunnel dimensions and spine angle. from what ive seen, the two frames look similar but i don't want to leave anything to chance

YO!
thought i'd chime in. just saw this.
you may have to relocate the ignition coils, or bang out the tunnel a bit to make it fit around the brackets. no big deal. The tank from the 81 will have more room. The 81 tank is also shorter, but the tank strap piece actually goes right where the little nubbin sits into the groove so you can make your own mounting solution for it. It will make you sit more forward, so your foot controls are already rearsets, but are rear set even more now (hope you like aggressive position?) and you may want to drop the clip on bars (but watch to make sure they don't bang the tank.

good luck. PM me if you have questions. I'm not an expert but I've struggled to get mine just right for a year now. It runs well, now it just needs to look right.
