I've been posting about my bike in the cafe section. The build was moving along nicely and I was getting ready to remove all the un wanted tabs and such. I decided to take a week off of the build and really think about what kind of bike I wanted to ride most of the time into the city or for country rides. There is alot of riders around here so I've seen alot of bikes on the hiways and around town.
We'll today I finally made up my mind and broke out the hacksaw. Here's a few pics of what it looked like when I got it and right before cutting time.
So I had a 1977 suzuki pe 250 frame laying around so I cut it up and took part of the top tubeand the rear section of the basket in one piece. That fit perfect into place. I had a set of handle bars laying around to so I hacksawed them and they slide perfectly into the frame a little turn and they line right up with the new section of frame. None of it is welded yet just resting in place. A bit of clean up some coping and I can weld it all up.
I'm really starting to like the look of the one year only 1977 aluminum suzuki tank. I will pump a bit of air into it to spread it a little for better fit.
What do you guys think ?????? Suzuki tank or kawi ?????
Hard tail cafe? Kind of an oxymoron no?
And I think the suzuki tank looks hideous unless you plan on putting it on a vintage dirt bike while the kz tank has soft curves and with a strobe stripe running along the bottom I think it'd be killer.
Like these
Then again I know nothing about art, and being that I own a 79 kz650 I may be partial to the kawi style tank..
So I finally got around to tac welding the rear section of frame
Tomorrow I'm going to tac the supports in place. I put the side stand on just to check how much of a lean, worked out nice.
I got the supports all cleaned up and tacked into place. Time for the 1962 seat modification. Going for the clean as possible mount and still keep the look of the seat. I will have to weld up some of the bottom of the seat but won't see that.
I think I am going to drill a hole through the new top tube and slide a small tube through the hole and weld it in place toGive it some strength then bolt the seat on.
So instead of bolting the seat to the frame I welded it. At any point I can remove the seating area to access the seat frame. It looks uncomfortable but it is totally the opposite. I do need to add a brace underneath the seat for safety
Did some work on the rear fender. I drilled out the rivots on the fork brace Soni can reuse the brace on the front fender that I will need to find. I plan on welding the fender into place so I trimmed the fender to fit in the frame tighter. The bottom of fender lines up perfectly with the inside arch of the swingarm.
Right now it's just in place with small chunks of 2x4s and the wheel pushed all the way forward. The wheel was a bit further back before I took it off.
