We checked the squish after the fact. We had removed the base gasket and we still had .042” squish.

Opinions differ, but .040" is usually the upper limit for what one would consider a squish band. Not uncommon to see clearances as low as even .010".

This is going to sound crazy but we are starting with 1.4 millimeters =
0.0551 inch

Found pictures for the Model 81 cylinders with the finger ports. Were the finger ports part of the intake or transfers?

Thank you. Zekes M70 piston on the left and My M51 piston on the right had holes on the exhaust side. What were these for? Both our skirts had been shortened on the exhaust side also.

Do you have a matching M51 barrel to csee what the holes line up with?  If not a transfer duct then probably to cool the front face of the barrels, but they are large for that.
