So far the only sketchy thing I have found on her.  When I peeled the boot off the Starter solenoid.  I found the Hot wire that feeds the harness was loose.  And that could have caused intermittent power issues.  Starting up fine, then for seemingly no reason not starting.  OR running just fine, then suddenly dying w no power to anything.  Had a guy not found that loose connection.  It could have been crazy frustrating.  Then maybe parked it and never got back to fixing it.

Thanks guys!

The first wave has arrived.  Stragglers will be trickling in over the next week.

Always delighted to have the most accurate info.

Won (only 1 bid, $12.00 + 15 shipping) 1978 w 78 1/2 addendum of the Official Honda shop manual in paper.
Turns out this CB400A Hawk is a half year machine.  Made the first part of 78,  then became the CB400A Hawk 2 for 1978 1/2.
In 79 it evolved into the CM400A.  They quit making the A's 3 years later in 81.

Got a decent deal on a pair of dropped and broken ebay carbs.  Paid off.  Both bowls and overflows are better than my rotted ones.

A lot of penetrant and a little heat gun makes easy work of stuck brass, gaskets and orings.

I soaked them in wintergreen but only overnight.  I think it helped them...or wishful imagination.  They are hard.  But not rock hard.  There is still a little bit of pliability left in them.

Add Xylene to the mix. The wintergreen oil has trouble on its own and need a carrier. I use a mix of 75% Xylene and 25% wintergreen oil.
