Cb450 1st gear issues
« on: Aug 27, 2017, 16:10:52 »
So I've done a fair amount of searching and haven't come up with a clear answer, hopefully someof you may be able to shed some light on this issue.

Bought the bike as my next project so my girl and I can ride together, bone stock 74 cb450, runs and idles fine after points and carb rebuild. However I'm having an issue with 1st gear jumping in and out under even slight load. Ever other gear seems to be fine. I've replaced the clutch. Also just recently split the case to inspect ththe gears and dogs thinking maybe a chipped tooth or dog, all seem to be in great condition. Noticed the detent roller had about an 1/8" of play in it, so I replaced that with one with nearly no play in it. Also looked at the shift drum and shift forks, also looked to be in great condition. Got it all back together and in the bike. First gear still jumps and all gears seem to shift slightly harder now. Any and all help would be appreciated
